My PCGS VF set of Barbers Quarters is complete. 25+ years in the making.
Hi All -
Been meaning to post this for awhile, but life kept getting in the way.
The news is true! I've completed my PCGS VF set of Barber Quarters! I'm a bit on the picky side (and a tad slow), but its still been a very long, fun ride. Can't believe how difficult this set was to put together, in dirty, strictly original VF.
Picked up my last date, the 1901-S from Heritage a few months back, in VF25 CAC. This example really matched my set well, so I decided to pull the trigger. Sorry about the lousy iPhone 6 pics, but you'll get the idea of what the 01-S looks like. Nice and dirty, the way I like them. Love this coin!
Thanks to all of you all of you have helped me locate the tougher dates over the years. You know who are -- I really appreciate your help. Thanks to all who have reached out to me, especially my good friend Mike Hayes, who kept nudging (pushing?) me forward. Could not have done this without your help.
Once I get my updates and pics up on my Registry Set, I'll update the thread.
Wahoo!
Dave

This is one heck of an accomplishment! Congratulations.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Barber Quarter novice me just checked the pops....
To find one in your specific grade couldn't have been easy. To find one in your grade AND fitting your specific set look sounds almost impossible.
Congrats!!
Congratulations. That's a long time and a lot of effort but you accomplished it.
Congratulations Dave, an outstanding accomplishment.

It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
@Dave99B Acquiring the capstone to a monumental set is always a good thing! Congratulations and I hope you can afford to enjoy it for a few years at least!
Kind regards,
George
Very nice!!!!!great 01 as well
HAPPY COLLECTING
Wahoo for sure to your accomplishment Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the collection too. Thanks for sharing the moment with us all.
Way to go! So where do you go from here?
Very nicely done... would love to see the whole set. Individually, all together, which ever way is easier to post.
'dude
Amazing accomplishment!
For those who do not know this series, it is loaded with tough semi-keys in the mid-grades like this, on top of the Big Three. Try finding a 97O or S, 01O, 09O, or 14S, among others.
And you had a heck of a mentor with Mike Hayes on your team!
@Dave99B .... Fantastic achievement.... and a set to be very proud of.... Congratulations on a job well done. Cheers, RickO
Congratulations on your achievement.
A very, very tough set to complete.
Congratulations on completing your set!
Your 1901-S is a choice, original coin, a good choice!
An authorized PCGS dealer, and a contributor to the Red Book.
Why Barber Halves, of course!! Plenty waiting for you and not "quite" the challenge!
That's pretty cool. Congratulations.
Hey isn't that walts old 01-s
Congrats!
A sincere congrats on finishing your set! I'd love to see a group pic when you're ready!
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
I'll give you $22,390.00 for the 01-S right now.
Congrats on a terrific accomplishment.
Way to go! Great accomplishment. You are one heck of a collector......even though you are a Seahawks fan.
Mike is the man on Barbers and a great friend of mine also. Looking forward to seeing him again at FUN.
So now you can do the Halves and Dimes. Again great job. Is this set in the Registry?
That is great news congratulations on a job well done.
Looking forward to seeing you at the FUN. Stop by my table and say HI!
Wow! That's quite an accomplishment. Congratulations.
What a finale! Ending with the 01-S. Way to go and now what???
bob:)
Well done. A true accomplishment. Always liked the all of the Barber series.
Congratulations!
Isn't the 1901-S scarce because the entire mintage was sent to Manila for use in the Philippines?
Wow! Congratulations. Well done!!
Congrat's to you! Sweet.
My 1866 Philly Mint Set
A most laudable achievement not soon to be surpassed. Very, very well done sir.
Congrats! Quite a task but a most enjoyable one!!
Wow - congrats on completing the set with a big splash at the end!
Best thing I read on the internet all weekend! Congratulations!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Congrats on a great accomplishment!
Congratulations!
You would think Heritage could comp the shipping, but appears (from that $64.75 charge) that shipping is part of their revenue model.
Indian Head $10 Gold Date Set Album
Seems excessive, but insurance for that amount would be pricey.
Congrats! I agree with your approach of buying the rarity towards the end. Learn the series first, make the minor mistakes (learning curve) then buy the quality coins - you must have a really great set. Enjoy.
Very interested to hear about your next project. Amazing thread !
Congratulations Dave99B, on a spectacular accomplishment! I've enjoyed following your progress over the years on this forum, and really respect your dedication to this project, and your patience and perseverance in achieving your goal.
Outstanding set, as others have said, would be very difficult if not impossible to duplicate in any short term time frame.

Nice!
I've been watching this set come together ever since I joined here and I'm so happy for you Dave. Mike is definitely the man to have on your team when finding the right coins because he is picky and always seems to pull them out of thin air lol. Congratulations I can only hope to accomplish this. That 01-S is amazing
Hoard the keys
Congrats, Dave!
Wow, that is a huge accomplishment, congratulations on finishing the set.
An extra tip of the hat to you for sticking with crustyness and originality!
Good going! Congratulations!
U.S. Type Set
What a way to finish a set...one of the hard ones with a great look
Great looking, original 1901-S!

25+ years of effort -- big congrats! Hope you enjoy the whole set for years to come!
25+ years means it wasn't just a collection to you, but a labor of love.
Congrats to you on your accomplishment!
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
