My PCGS VF set of Barbers Quarters is complete. 25+ years in the making.

Dave99BDave99B Posts: 8,559 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hi All -

Been meaning to post this for awhile, but life kept getting in the way.

The news is true! I've completed my PCGS VF set of Barber Quarters! I'm a bit on the picky side (and a tad slow), but its still been a very long, fun ride. Can't believe how difficult this set was to put together, in dirty, strictly original VF.

Picked up my last date, the 1901-S from Heritage a few months back, in VF25 CAC. This example really matched my set well, so I decided to pull the trigger. Sorry about the lousy iPhone 6 pics, but you'll get the idea of what the 01-S looks like. Nice and dirty, the way I like them. Love this coin!

Thanks to all of you all of you have helped me locate the tougher dates over the years. You know who are -- I really appreciate your help. Thanks to all who have reached out to me, especially my good friend Mike Hayes, who kept nudging (pushing?) me forward. Could not have done this without your help.

Once I get my updates and pics up on my Registry Set, I'll update the thread.

Wahoo!
Dave

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

Barber Quarter novice me just checked the pops....

To find one in your specific grade couldn't have been easy. To find one in your grade AND fitting your specific set look sounds almost impossible.

    Congrats!!

    Amazing accomplishment!
For those who do not know this series, it is loaded with tough semi-keys in the mid-grades like this, on top of the Big Three. Try finding a 97O or S, 01O, 09O, or 14S, among others.
And you had a heck of a mentor with Mike Hayes on your team!

You would think Heritage could comp the shipping, but appears (from that $64.75 charge) that shipping is part of their revenue model.

Seems excessive, but insurance for that amount would be pricey.

Congrats! I agree with your approach of buying the rarity towards the end. Learn the series first, make the minor mistakes (learning curve) then buy the quality coins - you must have a really great set. Enjoy.

Outstanding set, as others have said, would be very difficult if not impossible to duplicate in any short term time frame.

I've been watching this set come together ever since I joined here and I'm so happy for you Dave. Mike is definitely the man to have on your team when finding the right coins because he is picky and always seems to pull them out of thin air lol. Congratulations I can only hope to accomplish this.
