What happened to this buff and will it grade? (colorful 1913 type 2)

I am pretty sure this is as-struck. Was the planchet lightly clipped? You can see another defect on the obverse side at the same position.
Will this keep it in a details holder?
I appreciate your input.

Almost looks like a small clip but more likely post mint rim damage. Not sure if it would grade.
nice color, looks like PMD, IMO.

I am not an error-guy so I am not sure what causes things like this. But I have an early Lincoln with a similar effect that PCGS felt was mint-made and the coin graded 65RD.
Lance.
Stunning linc, Lance!
I'm very sure it's some kinda cockeyed planchet clip and is as struck. I've seen this a few times and will not stop it from receiving a numerical grade. Really pretty pastels with this one .
It is a rim clip.
It's a minor rim clip.
I think that this is mint made and you can see the effect on the corresponding position of the obverse, too. It will straight grade, provided they like the color.

Agreed, a minor rim clip on a very attractive coin. Liking the color or not would be what pcgs weighs more than the rim clip.
I've gotta say that is a seriously beautiful 13-d Lincoln, Lance!!
This is a mint made error and would probably be noted as such on the holder insert when it is graded.

Late to this thread but it just popped up in a search. Both coins have rim clips. Small clips like that are actually not uncommon on 1913 Buffalo nickels, I have seen examples in high grade from all three mints. The 1913-D cent clip is much less common, especially in that grade. In neither case should the rim clip preclude PCGS from certifying in a normal holder.

Yes, as mentioned by everyone above,
it's a rim clip, or a disc clip.....genuine.
The type 2 above is actually at our hosts now, so it should grade sometime later this month??
Thanks everyone for the input.
I agree with the 'as minted' conclusion....there appears to be no distortion of the circumference which (IMO) would indicate PMD.... Cheers, RickO
Cool dinky rim clip which shouldn't affect the grade until you near MS70 as mint errors can now only go MS69.
