Just saw this tweet from our local newspaper:
More discoveries of 1883 US-minted coin found in Deadwood https://t.co/LGyHC4QcH8 pic.twitter.com/jme1Tk9YfD
— Sioux City Journal (@scj) November 14, 2016
The article was pulled from this article: rapidcityjournal.com/news/local/eureka-moment-arises-as-experts-discover-rare-coin-in-deadwood/article_2b9d6c1d-f31c-5c07-a853-5280c406428a.html
The headline on the tweet made it sound much more interesting than it turned out to be, but I thought the image in the 2nd article link, looked more legitimately gold plated than many of the "spray paint" style that we've all seen.

Don't ya love digging up an article from an event that happened in 2001?
It did mention that the coin was of negligible value.

I believe Tom Griffith will be slightly embarrassed when he realizes how far he took this one off the rails with the embellishment. That crude piece of junk doesn't even have a reeded edge applied.

I have one... of course I cannot prove authenticity, but it is a nice conversation piece... Cheers, RickO
Here's as close as I think anyone is going to get to the real thing.
That's interesting, Bill.
