Nicely toned 1957 proof set.

I'm wondering if it's worth sending in for grading.

Your advice is appreciated.

I don't know enough about modern proofs to answer your question, but I will say that all 5 coins pictures are quite nice, especially the silver.

"Worth it"...maybe not, but I have included nicely toned coins like that in with my submissions primarily to get the TrueView images of the toning. But would only do so if I expected them to be high grade 67 or above.

You'd probably get your fees out of the coin if sold to a collector of toned coins.

The silver, yes. The others, maybe.

Can you find a "live one" who will pay a big premium for toned common date proof coins?

With the tarnish premiums given today, you likely will do well... Cheers, RickO

Pics of reverse?? If the reverses are brilliant, no. Sell as a set on eBay.

Reverses are all toned but not as much as the obverse.

Reverses just have a thin peripheral golden toning .

    Yes,

The Quarter and dime are likely $200 coins (each) if they grade PF 67. I see no reason they would not.

As of now they are not worth slabbing. If they were from the 30's or 40's with that look they would be worth slabbing because those coins have some scarcity to them. But 1957 marked the first year that Proof set mintage exceeded 1 million. There was even a time when the '57 Proof set sold for less than the issue price of $2.10.

What would it cost you to have it graded?

It would depend on grades (hairlines). If they are 67 or higher and you have good pix, you could profit.

I would suggest A) Piggybacking on someone else's submission

    B) If you were planning on selling them, send them to Great Collections. They'll slab them for $12 a pop and sell them for you.

They look nice although it's nearly impossible to grade proofs from pics, and even though you say there's not much toning on the reverse,

the important thing is that what toning there is is attractive and on the "money side." I think you'd do well if selling them.

I thought NGC might STAR the dime.
Overall, I think you did well.
With good pics, I could see them going for $75 each or more on ebay.
    You can never tell though.....

Thanks for the update.... now if you can follow on with prices realized on the sale, it would be educational for many of us.... Cheers, RickO

Especially for me, as I have no historical info on their value.

Maybe just list them on Ebay starting at $1 and see where it goes.

The educational value will be on the premium paid for tarnished coins.... the market for these seems to be super hot right now... Cheers, RickO
