OK, I am trying to be patient as I don't have choice I guess that is tough tooties. Anyway, Love seeing your posts. I am waiting on the '33 goldie, the '45 Peace and the large size '79 Ike which I believe will come in two separate shipments.

I had Dan ship all of them together (all the ones you listed). You may get them in one package as well. I just got mine on Saturday (registered was very fast - only took 4 days).

@Twobitcollector Where did the 1887CC Morgan come from? I don’t see it on the Moonlight website. Thanks

I spotted this in your production blog. Beautiful! I have to get one! Can you reveal the 3rd party, if it is a re-seller?

Amazing! Would be great to have a Proof / Proof-Like version as well!

The photo is about as proof-like as these will be. Over-striking a proof finish, while simultaneously changing the design significantly, usually results in a lot of host coin artifacts that remain visible.

I did receive at last my three "Danny" coins: 1933 gold $5, 1945 Peace dollar, and silver 1979 Ike.
Commentary: I too found the half eagle to be quite coppery in presentation, the Peace dollar BEAUTIFUL, and was wishing for an "S" mintmark on the Ike (as a native Californian would!).
This makes me wonder if gold blanks were originally pickled by the US Mint to leach out surface copper and give a more golden appearance to the struck coins???

FWIW, the third party seller is Chopper's Coin and Collectible Network. The 1887-CC Morgan pattern does not appear on their website yet, but is available through them. Call their phone order hotline, listed on their shopccn.com website.

I think yes, the US Mint leached copper off of the surface of gold planchets.
I might experiment with doing that next time.

    Please explain.

    The Double Die looks amazing, so would double dates like 1966, 1977, 1988, 1999. 1944, 1933, 1922, 1911, 1900.

Triple Die for triple dates. 1888, 1999

    .

There is the controversial 1959-D Wheat cent out there. I mention it in my product description for the "1958-D" Memorial:

"The first year that the Lincoln Memorial reverse was used for the Lincoln cent was 1959 (on the occasion of the sesquicentennial of Lincoln’s birth in 1809). There exists a single known (and very controversial) “1959-D” Lincoln cent with the Wheat reverse. Experts disagree on whether or not it is a genuine issue. The realized price for this controversial piece in auction indicates that it is generally believed to be a privately-made “fantasy”, although that realized price was still considerable. The “1958-D” with Memorial reverse is the reciprocal “fantasy” issue to the “1959-D” Wheat reverse. Struck over 1959-D Lincoln/Memorial Cents. "

But Dan does the US mint acknowledge the coin? Like Clacker says: sign me up and "take my money"!

    .

You mean that "1959-D" Wheat Cent ?
I think at one time that item was sent to the US Mint and/or Secret Service and they indicated that it was genuine.
But I think all they really did was check the dimensions, weight, and composition. Since it was likely struck on a US Mint bronze cent planchet, it would pass those tests. The real question is the origin of the dies that struck it. It looks like replica dies to me, but I could also see how someone would conclude that it was struck from genuine dies.

  • 7Jaguars7Jaguars Posts: 7,577 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yes, I believe that was the coin.My recollection is that mint personnel never did offer opinion and that it was the Secret Service, technically a branch of the US Department of the Treasury that had examined the coin. My point was that I had thought as long as there did not officially exist such a coin that it might be fair game to be struck by you or others???

In the 80's I ran a free weekly ad in NN looking for outrageous errors.
That was before I began using the words outlandish or shenanigans when currently describing fun mint sport examples.
The 1959 Wheatie images got offered to me with the secret service letter in the mail back then. I have the xerox letter in storage. 10 years of neglected storage but I see it when I think of it.

Interesting ??? Yes but just to me, maybe.

As no price was quoted I moved on to my favorite items to purchase which are goodies with seller's price desired. I am glad there was no price included on 59 1c wheat issue as it has been pretty much poo~poo'd since.

I'd like to see a 5oz version of The Year of the Dragon Medal.

  • SPalladinoSPalladino Posts: 885 ✭✭✭✭✭

I hadn't looked at the obverse design of the 'revenge of the dragon' medal in detail, so I hadn't noticed the Pistrucci 'St George slaying the dragon' near the bottom. That made me pull the trigger and order this one.

At some point I will probably use that Dragon sculpt (without Saint George) in some other format. A 3-oz 50mm is possible.

    .

That would be great! I think it looks good on a 1oz round. I think it would look great on a larger round.
