Should the Mint release a Football shaped coin and would you buy it?

The Baseball coin had the curved shape, but how about a silver football coin that is proportionally the same shape as a real football.

TPG's probably wouldn't build a holder to hold it, but that may make it even cooler.

I'd buy one, would you?

They holder stranger shapes than a football for example the Maple Leaf shaped coin and the Star Fleet Insignia shaped coin .

I think a football shaped coin would be to gimmicky for the U.S. Mint. More like something from the Perth Mint. That being said the sad thing is if the Mint were to produce it, I would have to by it as it would be another mint rarity.

Only if the reverse has the American Flag and the lyrics to the National Anthem on it.

Don't want the Mint to get too much like Perth or the RCM.
Not sure if they should, but would compliment the HOF nicely.
    I'd buy.

I did not buy the HOF and would not buy this one...just not into gimmicks....However, sports fans would love it... and to each his/her own.... Cheers, Ricko

  • I think that the curved baseball coin works well because the convex part forms a ball and the concave part forms a glove - both symbols of the game take advantage of the natural shape. You could do this for the convex part of a football coin, but what would go inside?

Absolutely yes. I would buy that coin. (I'm tired of the same old lame designs ... Cudos to the Pert Mint in coming out with designs that are geared more to the current fancies of new "coin collectors." In time, some of the newbies might even widen their horizon and progress to the classic coins)

I thought that there were plans for a (U.S.) basketball shaped/textured coin.

    Canada already did it;

I liked the baseball coins. The curve was different but at least they are round. I think the odd shape of the football is too much.

To me, the novelty has already been breached with the football shaped silver. I have one with Emmit Smith's portrait and his stats in a nice velvet case. And...I have seen other players on the football shaped silver. With the negativity around because of the flag situation and the NFL players, I do not personally think it would be in demand from the mint.

No,i wouldn't buy one.Football is not that interesting to me.

My advice to football fans who collect coins would be to buy a real football, put it on a stand in the TV room where you watch the game and imagine that it's made out of your favorite coinage metal.

    This.

On the other hand, maybe they'll make it and another similar one slightly less convex and put a Tom Brady signature facsimile on the inside. I might buy that one...
