    Thanx Donato.

Someone asked me why didn't I make all of them adjustable?

I was probably trying to keep it simple - and I "may" regret it?

Another way to go here would've been to have a cabinet company design, order and install shelves of my color - not sure what that would've cost - my instinct is more.

Looks good Mike. I think the shelves the way you did them are much better. Don't have to worry about pegs or pins falling out and stuff falling. Place looks great - can't wait to see the finished product.

Hiya Robert - my wife wants it done before the National.

I have the carpenter coming back next week - then the painter - then the floor will be done - then the painter has to do the baseboards that will be added.

Then I have to start pulling out stuff.

    ?

    Doubtful.

Esquiresports, that entire room is incredible. Well done!!!!

    +1

That is truly amazing what you have done there, and the way it is organized and arranged with pictures and descriptions is a great touch. Hard to imagine a better one out there. Are the boxes full or are they empty display boxes. I have a run of boxes from 1967-1976 and was thinking of doing a similar display with packs and boxes. Thank you for sharing.

    KC

Thank you. Just moved and right now everything is in moving boxes. Much smaller space to work with. The Topps boxes were all full, except the 1971 OPC box, 1973 OPC box, and 1975 Topps full-sized box. Never managed to land those. I subsequently sold off the majority of my unopened boxes, but have empty display boxes in their place. Much cheaper!

Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

    Hi everyone

Thought I'd give a little update.

Sum up: 1. as said - decided to go with wood floor and 2. crown molding - thought it would look nice.

So, here's the update - added some shelves to the left wall - in the middle will be a display cabinet I have.

I've got some sanding and caulking to do - I can get a cut on the labor with the painter for doing it myself - and what the hell - it's not like I work or anything!

I had to have him re-trim the middle bottom shelves due to not enough height for binders - this will be a bookshelf/binder storage area.

and as I noticed - it would be better to use a shutter and paint it the same color as the wall so it's not a distraction to the shelves due to proximity.

    Next up?

The painters. This will be after the National.

Then the floor - base trim and then the all important part: setting up!

Awesome work Mike! I've spent much of the last two years renovating a small cabin, and now I'm moving to a new home in need of a major renovation. I'll be staying busy for a while. Saddest part was taking down my sports room in the existing house. I built the individual shelves, the racing suit display case and the Gwynn "locker". I also did all the framing (bought an industrial mat cutter and taught myself). Probably a few hundred hours' work. No prior training. Just You Tube videos and guesswork. Hah. Here are some photos.

Now that the National is over, time for an update Mike!

Hope you are nearing the finish line.

    Hiya Robert

Painter coming over this evening to go over the colors for my room and a few others.

Still have to do some prep work to make sure things look as good as possible.

Of interest? I bought a window shutter at Lowes - when I came back from the National - they had delivered something totally different! Have no idea what it is but the 2 boxes are headed back to them.

    Will provide update ASAP.

    Thanx for asking buddy.

Besides all the hobby stuff - I've spend most of the winter playing general contractor - or should I say baby sitter to a bunch of subs - some good, some not so good.

We started out with an 80s/90s looking kitchen:

and I believe made it into something a bit more contemporary:

Just wanted to comment (beyond all your really sweet collectibles) that this is a superb-looking kitchen upgrade, looking very much more open, airy and modern. Cool stuff.

Are all of the boxes unopened?

    Hiya Ed

On a response before, I remember him saying they're "empty" displays - but incredible!

Here's where we are - the guys are doing the painting - unfortunately Lowes screwed up and didn't give me the shutter the rep - Amanda - selected - she must've messed up on the number or something?

Right now they're priming and final sanding.

Today Jesse - the painter - has a pro who does nothing but spraying of stuff - should look really nice.

Primed for final sanding and painting:

After the walls have been painted and the shelves have been done - I'm gonna have to see how things look with stuff in them.

My concern? Will there be too much "white" with all those shelves.

Another thing it's time to do - go get a few glass shelves for the middle display.

And call the carpenter who's gonna do the floors and final trim.

BTW - this is getting way more expensive than I anticipated - tho not surprised.

    Hiya everyone

Again, I sure enjoyed meeting up with you all at the National.

It's officially the high-light of my year in terms of the hobby.

Now, there's a little update - I can't get in contact with the carpenter who wants to do the floor - good news is that I have a "floor company" waiting in the wings if he doesn't return (he wanted to save me some dough).

The pedestal came out really nice IMO.

and painting the doors to blend in with the walls seems to be a success - in that your eye no long goes to the doors rather than the shelves:

I need to tweek the lights to be more snug with the ceiling and I'm still waiting on the shutter - they delivered something to the house but it looked wrong - turned out to the be the right thing - but the Lowes guy didn't know and sent it back - it's being reordered.

The idea is the same as the doors - camouflage the window - so the shelves are the main feature.

will be keeping you updated as the work progresses - all be it very slowly.

edit: just got off the phone with the carpenter - will be back on Wed. to measure for the floor.

    Hi everyone

Just wanted to share what will be the centerpiece of my middle shelf!

When Hunt Auctions featured Roberto Clemente items - most were totally out of reach for me.

I wanted something with some kind of historical significance rather than being from some beer company who gave him a plaque (of which many were in poor condition).

This is the one that I chose...

The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame Award - 1995 - Roberto Clemente.

Every year they have a printed program - here's an example from 2007.

Previous winners from the 2nd page:

I wasn't able to find any photos of the inside of the hall - in fact, can't find anything recently - the latest I think is from 2012. I'm going to try and call them up.

The statue is 19" tall - solid brass casting - when I finish my "room" - this will have a prominent position.

I was also fortunate enough a few months ago to pick up a Drysdale award - that'll be for another time.

Looking forward to seeing this completed.

    Hi everyone

My carpenter is in the Houston area right now - so my floor is a low priority and I promised him the job so I'm willing to wait.

I am starting to bring out stuff for the front room - interior decorating is not my "thing."

Here's the mess I started with:

and this is what I have so far:

I have other stuff to put on the walls but I'm not sure what/where for sure yet.

Mary complained there was too much on the wall before - so she's kind of "guiding" me if ya know what I mean?

I just got another tobacco poster with its original frame that was a "display" item in tobacco stores at the turn of the century - it's 36" long - so it will need a little leeway.

It's my pleasure and a privilege to share my experience with you all.

I have a tobacco thread that I can post on this but I'm really saddened by the fact that all the pics are gone - thanks photo bucket!!!

    Thanx a lot guys!

Very kind of you to respond.

Interior decoration your collectibles isn't a strong point of mine - so it'll be trial and error all the way thru to completion of the other room.

As I said, my carpenter is in Houston where the "work" is - so I probably won't get my floor for a bit. I don't mind since he can do it for about 1/2 of what a flooring store charges.

Will keep you all up to date and again thanx!
