In other news, apparently the counterfeiters weren't aware that the 2016-30th anniversary ASE would have a smooth edge. Coin World is reporting of fake 2016 ASE proofs with a reeded edge...
I suspect sales will pick up for Christmas, but along with the Reagan C&C set, we're only at 450K. Sales haven't been that low for the ASE proof since the '90's...
Probably won't break 500,000 for the Proof. I'm a happy camper!
Release date is still TBD for the Uncirculated (Burnished) coin. 1st week of December at the earliest? Actually, I'm hoping sales will be cancelled -- except for those of us in the "Product Enrollment" program... an instant high-priced collectible!
(You posted at 8:30 Eastern Time. The mint site always seems to be updated last night/early morning. I wonder who does it and where they're located. I assume it's out of Texas, but I'm beginning to wonder...)

You are forgetting the 2012-s proof silver eagle. It is the second lowest mintage right after the 1995-w. It was only available in the Making American History set and the 2-coin SanFrancisco anniversary set.

You're right. That coin was dissed after it was assumed by collectors that it would be exclusive to the SF set, but was then included in the American History set, yet still retains the lowest regular ASE proof issued after the 95-W. It was the impetus for the "Exclusive to this set" wording now used by the mint.
I actually bought a few extra in 2012 after realizing this. Maybe some day they'll appreciate in value...
Probably won't happen but lots of ways to screw up 3 part collar edge lettering...
A-B positions?
3 plain collars?
2 collars with lettering?
Chipped letters on collar= missing letters
Reeded edge?
Have any edge-error reports surfaced? As @2manycoins2fewfunds said, unlikely, but where there's multiple collar parts, esp. the 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock collar stamping the edge lettering, there's a way. CHECK YOUR 2016 ASE -S PROOF AND -W BU EDGE LETTERING EVERYBODY!

This is the best I could do with the edge.
Not bad, at least you can see the lettering. The mint capsule is less than desirable for an edge lettered coin...
And props for actually taking it out of the capsule. (I'm still not going to to that. )
Coin World: So you think that American Eagle silver dollar from the flea market is a bargain?
Or maybe they just didn't care...
Hmmm.... Latest mint numbers:

Hi Edgar,
I started a stand-alone ASE Uncirc thread...
(You posted at 8:30 Eastern Time. The mint site always seems to be updated last night/early morning. I wonder who does it and where they're located. I assume it's out of Texas, but I'm beginning to wonder...)
I am very happy with mine....I do believe it would grade 70.... A really nice coin. Cheers, RickO
I would think continued sales (though definitely slowing to a crawl) , the LE proof set and the Congratulations set would push it past the 500k mark
Yes this is what I use and it works very well

Cool. I can't remember seeing a folding utility knife before. Would I be out of line suggesting a new blade?
Numbers have rebounded a bit. I need to look at previous years to compare sales...
I was thinking the same thing as I took the photo. I do have a pack of them, so today will be the big day LOL

Weekly Sales
Weekly sales data will be posted here. A link to this post is in the original (first) post of this thread.
sales - 21,511)
For your amusement (or maybe mine)... Sales by week for 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Weekly sales are comparable with 2014, however the 2014 went on to sell 894,614 and the 2015 sold 699,623. Both were taken off-sale on Dec 30, 2015.
If you ignore 2009, the 1995-W and the various reverse proofs, the lowest mintage years (for proofs) are:
2012-S: 281,792
1994: 372,168
1993: 405,913
1995: 407,822
1997: 440,315
1998: 450,728
1996: 498,293
1992: 498,543
1991: 511,924
1999: 549,330
1988: 557,370
2016 (when you include the other three sets the proof is in), won't even crack the top 10...
You are forgetting the 2012-s proof silver eagle. It is the second lowest mintage right after the 1995-w. It was only available in the Making American History set and the 2-coin SanFrancisco anniversary set.
2012-s mintage was 281,792 and you can often pick them up for under $50 each. I think they are a much better deal.
Interesting figures.... I did not realize the 2012S was that low. Cheers, RickO
