What would this $2 1/2 gold liberty grade?

I'm on the fence about sending this one in. What are your thoughts on the grade?

yes, because you might have a shot at ms63, which would put it at a nice price point.

The reverse gives me pause. Obverse looks good though so AU58 through MS63 seem possible and I do believe it will grade MS.

    Genuine.
Looks lightly burnished to me, but not too bad.
I think either MS-61 or a "details" grade.

Only about half to two thirds of the reverse luster is left. That could be a problem with trying to get a MS grade. Oddly, the obverse is 85-90% or better.

I say cleaned. Reverse (especially lower right) shows signs of it.

But may be MA and in which case would be a 61/62

Dunno about gennie w/details versus grade, but on details alone I'd say 58. Does look nice.

PS- I'd say it's definitely worth a shot. Send it in and let us know the outcome.

Worth submitting, but just do not set your hopes too high... will be better off in a slab. Cheers, RickO

I think MS-61 or so. The services can be tough on the Liberty $2.50. I have on in an MS-63 holder that is at least an MS-64, maybe an MS-65. I've seen others that were conservatively graded.

I honestly would not waste my money on grading it. I mainly buy and sell $2 1/2 coins. I think this one has been cleaned. And even if it hasn't, I can't see it going higher than 61, which would be a waste to grade. Graded it might sell for $300 (best grade scenario), which you might get raw on ebay anyways.

It just does not look quite right to me, so I will say details grade.

My 1873 just returned from PCGS and was not genuine. To the refinery it goes, next. image At least it came back as an "open 3" in the flip and on the label. I got that part right image
