My New Gold Purchase

Here is a photo of my new "old" gold purchase. I simply love the look of original gold.

While this is not a "rare" issue when compared to many gold pieces, I think it very interesting to note that there are fewer No Motto $5 gold coins with a CAC sticker from the entire 1839-1866 date run of the series (about 1650) than the tough date 1893 and 1895 Morgan dollars. (about 1900).

I'm a big fan of all the old gold that DW put up yesterday...not a big fan of posting NEWP until you have them in hand....couldn't go too wrong with any of Doug's 35 or so coins...not too many places you can find crusty old gold in a PCGS/CAC holder for less than a $1000...personally I gravitated to a civil war date that is scarcely seen...and out of my price range in a higher grade...

Great question, Brian!

I was determined to buy something. Those I liked more sold before I could get to them.

This was a combination of a work meeting and the website being overloaded. Several times the site shut down on me as I went to view particular coins alone causing me to have to start over.

Did this happen to anyone else?

It has happened in the past. Doug is in the process of a site overhaul and server migration which will solve the issue.

Yes if you are not at your computer hitting "refresh" at the minute that his sales go live...you certainly risk not getting your coin of choice...I experienced similar issues with his server yesterday...

Nice coin! I just went back and checked and it looks like all but 3 out of the 35 coins posted not even 24 hours ago have sold...wow. I figured these pieces would sell well given the "collector" grades and low price point (relatively speaking), but I'm a little surprised they sold that quickly.
