Most dangerous city in the US

Tukwila, WA

Just south of Seattle.

Not a large city by any means.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The measurement is per capita. So if 10 people lived in some extremely rural town and 5 committed violent crimes that town would top the list. I'd rather visit the towns on that list than Chicago, Detroit, Newark just to name a few. Heck, Myrtle Beach, S.C. is one of the U.S. biggest beach attractions.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

The reason I posted it is because it struck me as timely.....

Tukwila had the show where the dealer(s) were recently followed from and robbed as they stopped to eat (leaving vehicle unattended).

As I said in that thread then, it isn't an area I would stop and leave my stuff unattended.....it isn't as "scary" as downtown LA/Chicago/NY, but it sure isn't someplace I would leave any valuables.

Go to Lagos, Cairo, or Jo'berg and you will find all of those US cities to be relatively safe these days in comparison.

As a matter of practice, there is NO area where I would stop and leave anything of value unattended.

I think that's pretty good advice.

The article also states that any cities that did not complete and submit a full crime report to the FBI were excluded from the list, which brings up an interesting option of strategic failure to supply complete data if one fears their city might end up on the list.

Actually, this simply shows the stupidity of the statistics taken out of context.

Tukwila is the site of the largest shopping mall south of Seattle, Westfield Southcenter Mall - https://www.westfield.com/southcenter

So the per-capita crime rates ignores the tens of thousands of daily visitors who count in crime rates but don't live there...

...22 of the top 30 are located in the Deep South...now that's a statistic I can believe.

Statistics.....For much of my career, statistics were an important segment of my activities.

That being the case, my favorite description of statistics is as follows...

Statistics are like a bikini, what they reveal, is very revealing, what they conceal, is vital.

Actually there's an enormous "Super Mall" further south in Auburn, WA.....though Southcenter Mall has its share of criminals and wanna be criminals loitering.

I'd walk around at night in a nice suit and with a nice briefcase in Tukwila AND downtown Seattle as opposed to Trenton, Baltimore, Detroit, and at least a hundred other places...I'll work on that experiment and report back with the results. image

I've decided that the rural and country areas suit my family best and hope to move northward/eastward later this year.

Statistical anomaly, this city's population swells during the day. Boeing alone
    has over 7000 employees there.

I would be more afraid in certain parts of Chicago, New Orleans, Washington DC, Baltimore, etc.

Back in the late 1970's I worked for a large US moving company with international operations. I recall having a conversation with one of the key managers of the international operations regarding which cities were the most corrupt. His answer was Lagos, Nigeria. Apparently nothing got done without payoffs.

I completely agree with the statement that statistics can be taken out of context. However, the idea that many/most of the crimes may be committed by out-of-town visitors doesn't make the town any safer. It only means that the area attracts criminal behavior.

    Apples and oranges.

Sure, there are much more dangerous cities in the world, but I don't think most of us are going to shows in those places image

And, every year, it seems there are shootings around that mall. Some of them over shoes that have just come out!

The dealers were burglarized, not robbed. Know the difference. Robbery involves physical coercion of a person to effect a larceny, usually with a weapon. Burglary involves larceny from a structure, vehicle, or real property that does not involve a person to person confrontation.

End of the day, I don't really care, as it didn't happen to me, I am not a cop, and the items are still GONE.

Perhaps, if they had come out quicker, they may have been ROBBED. Would that have made you feel better about the word I used?

Nitpicking on something like that only really leads itself to trying to make yourself feel better....does nothing for what happened or the loss that was suffered.

I agree. I was a QC guy for 40 years, stats don't lie if you measure in a non biased method.

    Anyway, Safewise safest-cities-America

list says 30 of the 100 most safe cities in America are in New Jersey. I counted 'em, NJ kept coming up on the list. Safewise is the source for the Tukwila, WA claim to most dangerous city.
