I don't know my world coinage other than recognizing the Pillar and seeing a Netherlands coin shown in the Red Book.

Is that a communications satellite on that 1819 coin?

OK. These are examples of foreign coins that circulated as legal tender in early America.

The first coin is a dollar sized issue - a 1819-R Brazil 960R, Joao V Type, PCGS MS65.

The second coin is a 1589 Lion Dollar (Daalder), Netherlands - Holland, PCGS MS63. It circulated in early Dutch controlled New York.

The obverse legend translates as: MO.NO.ARG. - .ORDIN.HOL: New Silver Coin of the Standard of Holland

The reverse legend translates as: CONFIDENS.DNO*NON*MOVETVR: Confidence in the Lord is not moved

The third coin is a 1749-Mo MF Mexico 8 Reales Pillar Dollar, struck at the Mexico City mint, Ferdinand VI Type, PCGS MS64.

The fourth coin is a 1749 Netherlands 10s, Holland Province, PCGS MS64. It also circulated in early Dutch controlled New York.

Very cool - I'll call them 'grayside' - coins. Each one beautiful in it's own way.
PS - I have a countermarked 8R similar to your avatar, but it's the small oval variety,
counterstamped on a Carolus III coin. Yours is in far more better condition than mine though.

MLC, you have a darned good eye. Great details and toning on all of those. In particular, the Lion Daalder has a superb strike for that design.

I love the "coins that circulated in early America" theme and the coins you posted are gem's (perhaps literally)
