Wicked cool find at the Westford show

mirabelamirabela Posts: 5,094 ✭✭✭✭✭
Made the long drive with the kids this morning & scoured for a variety of things for their collections and our flea market table with mixed success.

The big score, though, came when my daughter pointed out a 1979 SBA souvenir set in a dealer's cheapie bin. Knowing to look for the near date / wide rim, she brought it out of the envelope, and -- lo and behold -- there it is. There are only a few thousand of these sets with the near-date coin, so of course we bought it.

As we were walking away, we realized -- the envelope is autographed. 12/31/95, Frank Gasparro.

How about that?!

Thanks. She's 12 & a lukewarm collector, but she was tickled with this.

    Always fun to cherrypick!
Had an acquaintance at a coin club meeting speak on cherry picking a, "1916 Mercury dime in a 2X2 marked at $1.80 even though it had a "D" mintmark on the reverse. Had it slabbed and sold for $2,200.00.
Always fun to cherrypick an unsuspecting dealer!"

Nice pickup but really great for it to be made by your daughter.

Thanks -- this definitely stoked the enthusiasms. We spent the next night at my parents' place, and she took this along to show it off to her grandparents. Not the sort of thing she usually highlights.
