Reverse rim appears to be filed behind bison's tail and hind legs ?

Agreed coindeuce. It might still straight grade since the pictures are so big, it prolly looks ok in hand though.

    MS 67 all day IMO.

If the rim issue turns out to be a non-issue this has to be one of those uber grades beyond my sandlot. Certainly better than any 66 I can recall, but after that ??? I sense some mushiness in EPU and some lack of detail at the tips of the feathers that makes me think business strike, but then I am nor a proof collector either.

Regardless this has a one-of-a-kind look to it and you should be a very proud owner.
  • JRoccoJRocco Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sure has that proof look to her Joe.

I'll trust your expertise on the reverse rim.

    High grade example regardless.

    Nice coin.

It is noticeably different than a business strike, though it is not "striking" when just viewed by itself.

Joe was nice enough to photograph this coin for me, as he has many others. One of the first things I noticed that was different about this coin is the fact that it doesn't have the typical "mint halo" luster present, rather, it has an overall even brilliance to it, and no metal flow lines.

Hopefully this will go in for grading soon. Special thanks to Joe for confirming my initial hunch about this coin having a high likelihood of being a proof, and for taking the time to evaluate the coin in person and take high quality images of it. I owe ya one, bud!

    can't it be removed?

I grazed over it several times with an icepick, but that sucker didn't budge. Next it is going in the sandblast cabinet.

If slabbed I feel it will grade as a "details" proof due to that rim damage at 3:00. Still a VERY nice cherrypick! CONGRATS!!
  • crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,042 ✭✭✭✭✭
No, I think that's the way it was struck. I'm sure this one will grade out just fine. It might however hold the grade back a bit.

Very early die state. At first I thought it was a proof. Amazing piece.

It's a matte. I'm sure of it, no question. If it's not I'll eat my nasty hat.
