Ooh. The "Rose" guineas are so much more appealing than the "Spade" guineas.
(I've only had the latter.)
You're right- that one is "crusty" in all the right ways- that's the kind of toning I like on my circulated old gold!
Here's some even older "crusty" gold. I was a tad bummed out by the "details" grade it received, but love the look of the coin. I may give it a try ATS, in hopes of a straight grade. (FWIW, if there are any signs of clipping, i.e. "filed rims", I have been unable to see it.)
My one-and-only piece of Southern gold is also kinda crusty.

Not an early gold guy so pardon the newbie question, but what is the "dirt" that outlines the details? Is it toning of the metal used in the alloy? Or is it a physical substance that stuck to the coin? (Just trying to understand the "crust" in "crusty gold.")

I liked having the Constitution year tie-in, also have a 1787 gold 1 escudo for the same reason, a very nice and slightly dirty AU coin of which I also have no picture
thanks for posting, I'd like to have one like it some day, great surfaces on that guinea
