At Westford coin show I bought my first CAC coin. It a little bit of a joke since shipping and certicartion of this coin likely cost more than the coin itself.
Certainly not something to laugh at. Study it and determine why JA certified it, and learn from it. Enjoy it. It's yours. Contact him if necessary to explain to you why it's certified CAC. . I've never known him not to extend this courtesy. I have a 1861 3C silver that is certified. Retail $130. Wholesale probably $85. But not for sale. Im very proud of it. Enjoy it. Learn from it. Education is the key to eternal life. Okay, I got carried away a little at the end here
Question - Is there a trace of mint luster on this coin? I don't see it in the pic & was told that was required for a coin to be called AU today. It didn't used to be that way with respect to copper, a number of years ago. Please advise.

I'm always surprised when I see a $100 or less retail coin that is not only certified, but also has a CAC sticker. I guess I'm not so much surprised by seeing the occasional coin fitting this description, I guess I'm surprised how many of them you see. If you do standard grading, what does it cost to ship a $100 or so coin out, have it graded, ship it back, ship it to CAC, have it stickered, and finally ship it back?

Answer: Bulk submission. It's MUCH cheaper and some have quotas to fill.

on bulk subs, you'd be surprised at the cost. the cac is odd but still not out of line. someone probably thought it was better tham 50. i do from that pic.
tough to sell these xf-60 lincs sometimes as they can tend to look a lot alike. a holder helps that equation for some buyers.
coulda been going for an au58 everyman set, got is real cheap and had option to cheap grading fees. perhaps a grading set.
or i am plain wrong on every count and someone simply didnt know what they were doing or just want to keep subs up at pcgs.
I only sent one submission to PCGS and there were some coins that weren't worth slabbing technically but I was playing GTG with myself. If random people could send coins to CAC, I'd do the same thing, trying to see which would and which wouldn't and then see whether or not I was right. Only thing stopping me is that I'd have to find someone who could do the submission for me, and since I'm not trying to sell anything so don't need the bean for anything other than personal self-gratification, I haven't gotten around to it.

For some reason I've always liked the 1921 date. Maybe I ought to put together a 1921 Mint Set type of deal.
It could get really pricey so the AU grades might be right for me. Maybe even VF for some Coins.
We forgive you.

Cool cent and a tough one too.
