1841-O $10 Toned Gold PCGS VF-35 with TrueView

Not mine. I saw it last night when browsing the more recent CoinFacts photos.
My first reaction was WOW, THAT'S PRETTY WILD FOR GOLD.
Not a cheap coin either. Is this some of the more dramatic toning on gold that you have seen?
Granted, I would attribute much of the toning to the exposed copper but still.
Your thoughts?
Is this MONSTER TONING when it comes to GOLD?

That is a very tough coin. Those Blues and magenta so are not a color I have really ever seen on a toned gold coin.
Not my area of expertise but I have not seen those colors on gold either...BUT we do know that copper can tone every possible color. If the mixture of this coin has a higher concentration of exposed copper.....well, that's how I would explain it if it belonged to me.

Either something was wrong with the metal mix in the planchet or it has been messed it.
I like toned gold, but I wouldn't want to own that.

The coin probably looks like that only at one specific angle with the light hitting it. Straight on its probably just dark and crusty.
I think you're right about that. My first thought was how could PCGS grade such a blatant AT piece, but thinking about it this way, it might look totally legit in hand and likely more attractive too.
