Massasoit Rare Coin Foxboro Ma

When I was a teenager Massasoit Coin was in the center of Foxboro Mass.. They used to have Monthly coin auctions. I did not have any money for coins at that time, but I just came across a couple coins I bought then.. Nothing special but I can remember looking at the coin board wishing I had more than 5 dollars... Anyone here buy off those boards in the 1970s?

Having never been there, I've never bought a coin from them.
But I still have coins from when I was a kid.
There was actually a coin shop in my hometown and I bought a lot of Lincoln cents there.

I always wanted a $2.50 gold Indian but wasn't possible on a paper route salary.

It took me 40 years before I bought one

I used to go to the coin board auctions at Lincoln Coins on Chandler St. in Worcester, MA.

The firm was run by Tom Lacey who was a good friend. He also ran a number of local coin shows, including the Worcester / Auburn show. Sadly Tom died a bit over 10 years ago. In his later years he moved out of the Foxboro store to Messenger Square Mall, and renamed his company "Nightowl Numismatics."

I bought a number of coins off of Tom's bid wall in the 1990s and early 2000s. A number were for my business, which I sold in short order. Here is one piece I bought for my collection when he was still located in Foxboro. I paid less than $300 for it, which was a huge bargain at the time. No one at the sale seemed to be interested in a No Motto half eagles, which in this grade are not that easy to find. It is now in an NGC MS-61 holder, which is an accurate grade.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I knew I recognized that Massasoit RC name from somewhere. Been 10+ years. I started setting up at Tom's show in 2004. When he passed a couple years later the show moved over to Auburn Elks where it's still held. That was a great show that he ran. And it was a good time in the market. First time I ever attended that show was in 1973. It's still one of the better shows in the New England region.

Edit: Thanks to Nutmeg for correcting the show location for me. Haven't been to it in 3 years.

The Auburn show is at the Elks club, not the VFW.
