My first purchase of the new year.

My first coin of 2016 finally arrived.
I like it but I'd love to hear other opinions.
What do you think PCGS graded her?

I really like seated liberty no stars coinage, has a nice clean look. Your coin is a good example.
Best, HT
They seem to be in the plastic.
Regardless, it's a beauty!

John, you are too tough
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I'm in the 50/53 camp.
All well deserved.
The obverse is right there as a favorite.
Looks like it could be one of those AU 62's.
Congrats!

I'll guess the grade at AU-53, and wouldn't be surprised if she graded AU-55.

For those that are saying XF-40, I'll take all your coins that look like this at XF-40 prices.

Especially for a VF-XF price.
I would have liked it a lot as a 50 but I love it at the grade PCGS gave it.
Thanks for the opinions.
Best, SH
No real cartwheel effect.
I have several of these in XF and I think they are all strong for the grade but
this one is the strongest.
Sign me up in the AU 53 camp.
Nice coin.

I wanted to grade it AU-50 or AU-53, but the images make it look like it has no luster.
EF-40 seems pretty tough. Are there problems hidden beneath the toning, or did the graders just not like tiny coins that day?
Cheers,
Dude
My choices were XF40 or 45. It has enough luster to be a 45 imo. PCGS isn't so forgiving on coins with a tad of softness in the strike like the 38-0 often shows. It's worth 45 money regardless of the assigned 40 grade. Very wholesome and apparently fully original coin for this date. The same obv highpoint wear is reflected on the rim from 5-11:00. The reverse by itself could be considered AU50 as it has more luster, being protected by the busy reverse design. Those wide open obv fields are a sitting duck for luster removal, making this type one of the easiest seated coins to grade. Not even stars to help protect the peripheral luster. I don't think you'd get a gold sticker on this one. This is a date that in my mind is a tad overrated. It retains strong demand because it's the only no stars with a mint mark.

I'm learning to be a conservative grader.
Definitely worth more than 40 money though.
In just seeing the thread I knew it was a 38-0 just on the obverse photo. An AU grade never entered my mind due to heavy rub and lack of the more than 5-20% luster in the obv fields. I was surprised of the range of to MS! At least no one called it a VF30. In 1988 I submitted the first raw 1838-0 dime to get the MS65 grade (none higher). Fwiw, that took 3 submissions to get it done going NGC MS64, PCGS MS63, NGC MS65. I suspect that coin would make it into a PCGS MS65 holder today.

roadrunner - I am in your fan club due to your knowledgeable posts and positive orientation. Thank you!
I was going to guess low AU thinking that the pics would hide luster that I was guessing was there. Very nice coin and I'd love to own it!
