Just saw this on RCNH's website as one of their customers temporarily stored it in a Microwave and then forgot where it was image

    OUCH!!!

Any chance that some careful trimming, and a long acetone bath will get anything approaching a "coin" out of that mess?

Stored in a microwave? I've heard of unusual locations for short term storage/security but that is a new one on me. You would think the snap-crackle-pop of a cooking gold eagle would have gotten somebody's attention before it got that bad.

    It's "toned" now. LOL.

I bet it wouldn't take much to get the coin out once you snip off the outer frame which is the only part of the acrylic which still has retained some of it's strength. The rest should just peel off with a little prying.

The guy wanted to hide his new purchase from his wife so he put it someplace he figured she would never go - the kitchen.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

Doesn't everyone store their coins in a microwave?

Are we sure there is a coin still in there? And not merely a cracked out slab cooked for effect?
  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭
If the coin has survived, would it be AT (Accidentally Tarnished)? Or MET (Molecular

    Excited Tarnish)? Cheers, RickO

There was in incident many yrs ago where a guy was hiding slabs in his BBQ grill. IIRC his wife lit it up. The coins were pretty much OK.
