    The action in the prime focal area in front of the face probably limits it a bit . . . but wow, a super (65+ / 66) cheek . . . . . .



    67 reverse . . . if they can just look away from the action on the obverse . . .66!

    MS-64+ or "a just makes" it MS-65. The cheek and luster look like MS-65 or better, but there is a lot of clatter in the upper right field. That might be overemphasized by the photo. The 1879-S is a common date in high grade and comes well made. Therefore, like 1881-S, it doesn't get any "breaks" on grading because of the date. One expects this date to come nice.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I agree, the early S-mint coins are my favourite to collect.

    These are often seen nice. This one won't grade above MS 65 because of the chatter obv/rev.
    If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.
