Of course the rich are all getting richer but they are buying things other than Coins. The ones that might be buying

Coins might not frequent these boards.

Well said FullStrike. Your comments struck a chord with me.

I was just wondering if there was another forum with the some of the past members and edginess. Things were a riot in the past, but they did get out of hand more.

Of course many of the old members are at NGC now. They've always had a really good forum but it's slower and quieter. Some would say the signal to noise ratio is higher but coin noise doesn't bother me so I hardly notice. If you count all of CoinTalk's forums they've already passed us in activity.

There are some up and coming forums as well as the four biggies.

One of the top reseachers in the hobby, RWB, posts ATS on a regular basis. You could chat with him any time, if you would care to go over there.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I'd never rag on you. I just finding interesting the one would still crop up. A few years ago I spotted $190 face value in 90% silver half dollars at a local bank, and "bought" the lot. It was quite a find.

I appreciate RWB a lot. He's very knowledgable loves to share. I really enjoyed his participation on the 1964-D Peace Dollar threads here with his expertise and research. And I do chat with him ATS, but that tends to be more limited as I spend more time here overall
  • I've been gone from here for a few years, I just don't spend the time with my coins anymore.image But I will be going to FUN this week!

Nope. Just agreeing with the author here and making a comparison of the threads now. You finding a silver dime is nice, but metal detecting folks find them every day. Maybe we can get those folks to start a thread every time they dig one out! The forums will be alive once again!

Agree, far too many whiney posts saying how bad the forum is, and folks tellin' us they're all done buyin' coins anymore, right Winky?

I would post some lovely coins but this mac book pro just won't let me so there you are.

  • This forum is a huge, living numismatic brain.

There are experts here who specialize in many different areas of collecting. You can ask a question about any coin, token, books or auctions and someone will have the answer. You can post a picture of a coin and ask for opinions on grade, toning, appearance or A possible error and you will get expert opinions.

When I started collecting there was nothing even close to this.

    And it's FREE!

Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.

Could the computer issue be age related along with your view of the board? It looks like you are close to 70 years old and you may be viewing things from a diminished reality.

Ya, life kind of makes us look in other directions once in a while. They call it priorities. Lol We usually venture back when able though.

In the last 18 months not much has changed.

In the last 10 years, much has changed.

When the market is good more people collect and build sets, even average people dug deep to build nice registry sets, and a lot of collectors posted here regularly.

When the market is thin, like it is now, less people are building sets, cannot dig deep enough cause nice coins are selling for stupendous money while mediocre coins are trying to cling on to life.

If the market perks up and people can once again dig deep to build registry sets, you'll see this place pop back to its former glory.

For now...we wait and keep each other company image

And the company ain't half bad image

The young ones, with their fancy smartphone friendly software, are now in charge. They will post the threads about finding the silver dime in the coinstar. image

I think there are more introverts here than there are extroverts. There was a time when we had more of the latter but unfortunately, most have been banned.

For me, I'm an ambivert, 'cause I enjoy the best of both worlds ......wherever they exist..........but not here though.

A thread about the forum will garner much more responses that a thread about a coin
