Roy Rogers "silver dollar car".

BLUEJAYWAYBLUEJAYWAY Posts: 9,905 ✭✭✭✭✭
I see the car where he had silver dollars embedded inside in the interior just sold at auction for over 300k. Anyone ever determine if there was any rarities/varities embedded? Anyone here seen the car in person?

I wonder what it would be like if that car showed up at a coin show and was parked on the bourse without any security or ropes around it...bunch of guys going through it with loupes looking for VAM's?

Possibly. Sometimes I don't get to all the posts and a few slip through the cracks. If so can you direct me to the thread?

Looks like a mid-60's Pontiac Bonneville.

It's a nice place but unfortunately all the dollars are placed with the obverse showing which has consequentially made it somewhat difficult for me to locate any micro "o" varieties. Drop in when your in town. Friendly people. Cold beer.

Did not know one existed in Jackson, will need to go down and check it out.

There is the 50,000 silver dollar bar in Montana as well. (which had over 60,000 when I was there in March)

true story: I got sent home by first grade teacher because I took my Roy Rogers gun and holster set to school one day. Police were not called and I did no jail time. Those were kinder, gentler times.

I knew someone would bring up guns.

For those with cable television, there are now several cable channels which run old television programs.

One has been running "The Roy Rogers Show" for years.

The odd thing about Roy Rogers was that he was a "kinder and gentler" cowboy hero. The ever did on the TV show was maybe shoot the gun out of the bad guy's hand. He never shot anybody anywhere else. It is surprising that he put so many guns on his personal car.

As I grew older, I kind of lot interest in his show because I liked westerns were everbody rode horses. In his show people were riding around in cars, including Pat Buttrum's "Nellie Belle" Jeep.

You could not bring your toy guns to school when I was in elementary school. I remember one day when I was in kindergarten teacher let us bring them to school. That was in 1955.
