Do you ever look at some of you new pocket change sometimes and think.....

"man, this brand new coin is BLAZING clean and lustrous. I bet that would Top Pop if I submitted it. If I had the stones I would submit it. I should submit it just for the heck of it. Naaa, it would probably just be a waste of money and folks like Wondercoin has the moderns tied up anyways. But what if it did Top Pop? I could be a millionaire." (Then proceed to throw it in the drawer with all the other junk change)

...well maybe not a Top Pop candidate, I have seen and accumulated several nice(r) coins from the tills at my part time job. But I don't really care for "modern" clad coinage.

You will need a spill cast by Harry Potter and ten leprechauns to make that scenario work.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I do think about what was in circulation 75, 100, 125.....years ago when I look at change.

The fact that pocket change with a slab around it is worth a lot of money is kind of weird to think about.

If people ever start collecting the clads they're in for a rude awakening. Since the beginning of time people set aside nice new coins but they stopped in 1965. Now they're worn down or lost forever. A lot of clad will be available only in advanced states of degradation.

Once I had a 1998 cent that was so incredibly perfect looking I sent it in just for fun. I got it in change at Wendy's. Came back 68RD.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I've NEVER thought about slabbing it, but I certainly have enjoyed the luster and "cleanliness" of some pocket change. Heck, I've even enjoyed some of the one-off designs...

Yes. I've thought it many times. Even set a couple aside in flips for whatever reason... image
Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I do remembereading a story here on the boards some years back from a guy who made a top pop sacagawea dollar after he received it in change at the post office.
  • Sometimes I find what looks like a special coin from pocket change but then usually I flip it over and.................still pocket change.

Actually I get some nice change from the Indian Casino.

They get it directly from the bank.

    I have to admit, yes.

    I have thought of it.

    Then, thankfully, the feeling passed

Yep, I've looked though my change and thought, "Wow, really nice strike!", then it gets thrown in my change jar.

I should start another jar and have a "nice strike" and a "cash in" jar...

Sorta off topic, I got my first radar note ever (that I've noticed) in change the other day, a 2006 $5 FRN, serial number 68566586, but it's so beat to crap that it's probably only worth $5. I think I'll keep it anyway... image

...actually I find myself looking in disgust and thinking YIKES! these coins sure are grotesque in comparison to the superb designs of the past...image
