Probably the most famous of all space flown coins are the two rolls of Roosevelts that Gus Grissom took with him on Liberty Bell 7, the second US manned spaceflight. Liberty Bell 7 sank on splashdown, and Grissom was pilloried in the press for bringing souvenirs with him. On his second flight, Gemini 3, he brought only one dime with him. After the flight he scratched GT-3 into it with his knife (the T stands for Titan, the rocket that launched Gemini), and gave the dime to Guenter Wendt, the Chief of the White Room (nicknamed "Der Pad Fuehrer" because of his German background). I own that Roosevelt, and a Roosie from Liberty Bell 7, so I own the only complete set of Grissom flown dimes in existence.
