Are there any truly FREE white pages phone directories?

RichieURichRichieURich Posts: 8,523 ✭✭✭✭✭
When I miss a call, I would like to be able to look it up to see if it is a telemarketer or a potential customer, before I call back. When I Google "free phone books", all kinds of services come up, most touting the word "free". Unfortunately, every one of these services I have tried charges money for their so-called "free" service. So my question is, are there any FREE whitepages directories or did everyone change the definition of "FREE" when I wasn't looking, sort of how the NFL changed the definition of "a catch"?

Sometimes just searching the phone number in a normal Internet search can indicate if it is a telemarketer.

Just Google the number and that should give you a good idea.

Whitepages.com comes up in a search for free whitepages, they charge.

Spokeo.com comes up in a search for free whitepages, they charge.

Intelius.com comes up in a search for free whitepages, they charge.

To me, "free" means "no charge". I don't have any clue why searches for free white pages comes up with only services that charge.

I'm signed up with nomorobo.com. If it's a robo call, my phone rings once and the call is
intercepted. 99% of the robo calls are from tele marketers, political, "phony or no longer in service" numbers along with fund raisers. With Verizon digital, I can block up to 100 calls from even coming through...So far I've blocked 61 phone #'s

There is a site called, "Find Who Calls You."
It's free and lists comments from people who also received calls from that number.

    www.switchboard.com

    www.excite.com white pages

Generally these will give you a number if you know the name and location of a person. Seems to work for people who have a phone book listing.

Tried a few of them... all want to charge for the vital information. Now I just ignore.

I just Google'd a phone number that kept calling my wife. After a couple clicks I found it was a Sprint cell phone from a neighboring town and gave me the last two owners of said number. It takes time, but it is doable for free.

If you google the number, I find better results by formatting the number as "123-456-7890" without the quotation marks.
