Ebay laugh of the day......

So I contact an overseas Ebay seller of which everyone of their coins (about 12 in total) are polished and mirror-like and say to him.....

"all your coins are cleaned and this lowers the value of your coins substantially. Stop cleaning your coins. It looks like you use a jeweller's polishing wheel"

To which I get a reply:

"I do not have a jeweller's polishing wheel. I use only special cleaning paste for coins (made in Germany) and wool."image

    I have noticed that European collectors many times like a cleaned coin over a tarnished or dirty coin. Seems to be the norm there. I too have told numerous ebay European sellers to quit cleaning as we American collectors abhor that practice.

    Yes... it is not uncommon to see this from European sellers.... while I like blast white

    When I was in Venice last year, I stopped into a coin shop to look at dark side coins as I like to get a historical coin from each country we visit. While looking at Venetian coins and getting a great history lesson from the almost 100 year old owner of the shop (he pulled out pictures from when he was child when Germany occupied the country), he took out a group of Morgans that were so cleaned I had to pass.

    You should have replied "that is too bad, as many will pay twice as much for old patina on their coins, and it takes less effort not polishing it up"
