Fake Perth Mint 5 Gram gold bars

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 31,564 ✭✭✭✭✭
Over on the dealer network, a dealer in Indiana I know that has been in business over 40 years reports that a pawn shop owner came in with several Perth Mint 5 gram gold bars sealed in plastic which his electronic gold tester said were fake. He says that the sealed cards looked just fine.

This kills any interest in bars, especially when "encased".

Wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole.

It's easy money for them. Perth Mint wont be last. How are we suppossed to spot the real essay bars from now on?

Are they filling them with tungsten or something?

Any reports or even rumors of newer AGE 1 oz coins? Ive pretty much stopped buying encased bars now. Goal...was to eventually get a 10 oz gold bar. But way too much risk. And now Im getting a little hesitant of coins even.

BTW, the link says that bar is made of copper.
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image
