Though I haven't seen an issue in 30 years or so, I think I know the award you speak of. As I recall, the page header had a frighteningly anatomically correct cartoon illustration of the south end of a northbound donkey?

To be fair, if idiot #2 hadn't shown up it would have sold for $700 less.

But for a first time seller, he must be thinking - Man, these fools on eBay sure a dumb.
  • Nice fake. You can find more of these if you just look around, good luck.

john knows of exactly of the award I speak... I myself haven't thumbed through the pages in quite some time, although the movie with woody harrelson as the editor of the mag did renew my interest for a while

Seller seems a little challenged by the Engrish ranguage.

"Free shipping from OUTSIDE the United States." Hmmmm. I wonder.

    Have a nice day
  • The detailed item information in the auction is for an 1873, not a 1871-CC.

I doubt that the winning bidder with >6,000 feed backs didn't know this was a fake. I would suspect that everyone that bid in this auction was running the coin up to keep the newbies away from it. No low feedback bidders. 2 bidders took it above $155, which was still in range for newbies to possibly take a risk. But at $800+, few of them have that kind of money laying around.

The date is comical, the CC's are even worse, and it looks cast. I see the tracks of the Coin Posse (or shills of the owner) all over this one. But, I could be wrong. Even a 5th grader bidding on such a coin knows places on line to check out what a real one looks like.

    Coin Posse?

Even the 2 feed back seller is an idiot. Mint luster? In time grasshopper, you will improve your scammer skills.

This listing is for a gorgeous 1871-CC No Arrow seated liberty quarter dollar that we would recommend to be in about uncirculated to uncirculated condition. It has a very nice strike, gorgeous mint luster, and attractive light toning on both sides. A very attractive eye-appealing coin that is just a touch away from a full mint state coin in our recommendation. Please view the close-up photos provided and view the quality of this coin for yourself.

wouldn't it be a hoot if the buyer was secret service going through the motions of a sting
1st must buy it...authenticate that it is fake...give report with return of coin back to seller
then wait for him to list it without informing next potential buyer of it being fake

    true story...
an ex-girlfriends friends ex-husband asked her to sell his parts car...a nissan skyline
    once funds transferred
7 black suv's arrived at his place and swooped in on him
they had informed him...money isn't an issue on a sting operation at all and they were to win that auction
turned out his skyline was legal to be here and all of his documents were in proper order

maybe oneday post's like this will be about seller's getting caught red-handed selling fakes to the fed's
or at least in update notes

everything in life is but merely on loan to us by our appreciation....lose your appreciation and see

  • Did anyone besides me report the seller?

Interesting that there's a "PCGS Number" on that auction.

<< <i>Did anyone besides me report the seller? >>

Reported both fakes to eBay. Suggest others do so as well, the more reports, the more likely eBay will act.

Same two high bidders ran up both auctions to the $600-$800 level. Other bidders never went past $100-$155. Still looks like 2 shills or 2 good samaritans to me.
