Hey, guess what this was graded. Grade is in my last post.

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
The color is accurate and there are many obverse die cracks that must have meant a shattered die in short order. Grade revealed this evening around 9-10PM.

Never owned a Shield nickel, so pardon my cluelessness. AU55?

What's that bulge on the bottom of the E in STATES?
    When in doubt, don't.

AU-50? Nice strike. Very clean too. I like it.

Doesn't matter what it graded, it's still a Shield Nickel.

I'll wimp out and say it graded AU. image

I would imagine that photos and a damaged/aged die allows for
the AU grades. I would be in the MS63/64 range, but then I have
not collected these coins in a long time.

Tough call without seeing the coin in-hand, but my gut feeling is that it was graded as an MS-62.

I have an AU58 that looks better than this, so I'll say AU55.

If it lacks the luster, which seems to be the case in the photo, MS-62. If it has luster hidden under the color, MS-64.

ANACS and the reason I bought the coin is because I thought it was a nice, undergraded example. despite the photograph it has full and unbroken luster.

Just now seeing this post, so too late to guess, but my initial thought was the luster is probably
better in hand, the strike is above average for a shield nickel, and no significant marks makes this is shot 63 coin.
