Check out my homemade iPhone copy stand. With my first photos.
Started with a piece of junk plastic.
Bought two sticks of 1/2" PVC, a few couplers and a pool noodle.
Lamps were on sale for $7/ea, already had the PVC glue and flat black paint.
The camera arm is height adjustable and pivots 360 degrees.
Held in place by the friction of the pool noodle pieces.
I need to adjust the lighting, currently using two 40W halogen bulbs.
May need a third light. Any thoughts welcomed?
Bought this 3" bronze medal from the mint a month or two back, I also have the PA and DC medals.

<< <i>Second try ... with a slabbed coin. Need to figure out how to remove the cameras reflection? >>
Try moving your lamps to shine down from above the camera.
Mark Goodman has good articles on placement of lights on his website:

immediately and also raise the camera. the camera and lighting height work together.

A diffuser should also help.
How does one get a hater to stop hating?

Read the article by Mark Goodman linked above, good stuff there.
A couple of questions:
What kind of material would make a good diffuser?
I'm shooting against a gray background, is that good?
What about alignment marks on the gray mat?
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
I'll try to post some more pics later ...
