Yep. That one was a hard one to screw up and they somehow did it anyway. I really do not like what is going on at our mint. It's like no care or time is put in any of the designs. They should ask the people what we want to see on our money.
Actually it was copied from the official White portrait. Compared to the Lincoln coin, which looked like "Abe the Vampire Slayer" and the FDR coin, which bore almost no resemblance to Franklin Roosevelt, it's actually better than average IMO. Here is a link with a commentary by the artist:
If you want to see an unflattering Kennedy image, check out this picture of a "bug eyed Kennedy" which appeared on a couple of 1960 JFK campaign buttons. Both buttons that feature this portrait bring good prices given their age.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Wow, thanks for that, Bill. That was a very interesting read. With background knowledge such as this, I can appreciate the pose even though I may not be a fan of it. Really cool read.

I ordered a $250 box of D-minted Kennedy's on the first day, with the intent of spending them. Well last night I picked them up at the Post Office. Those Coins are so bad, I regret buying them , even though I intended to spend them, all along.
I was disappointed as well when I saw it. I was going to order a box, and then decided I did not want to even use them as gifts or to spend. Probably better to get the new Sacajawea for parking meter money and to hand out to kids.
Ya know, there is aI'm istic perspective and there are things like this. JFKs' left nostril looks way out of proportion to the rest of the view.
What is that thing? An homage to a nostril golf ball implant?

The thing that really gets you is that the illustration actually looks better than the Coin in hand. Im stuck at work until 11:30 PM tonight but tomorrow I'll start passing them. Gonna keep tabs on peoples opinions about those monsters.
man, you guys are way too critical but I have come to expect that. a straight on or profile is typical and much easier to depict with the addition of "us" being used to seeing things like that. a three-quarters view like this is harder to render, just not what we're accustomed to. all things considered I don't think it is nearly as bad as some would have us believe, but I accept that I'll probably be in the minority with that kind of radical opinion.
I'm waiting for the Dollar with Obama on it. I'm sure he'll have a halo above his head.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

I don't think it looks like it.
I see "Kennedy, view from passing tractor trailer" or "Kennedy, view through scope"
