Figured now was as good of a time as any to start one of these and gives me a good excuse to get more scanning and inventory done. This is my fun side project that I try to add cards to on the cheap.
What this thread will cover:
- cards featuring golfers, golf equipment, golf phrases from tobacco to present
- primarily sets where golf/golfers are a small portion of the set makeup, though I may include some oddball dedicated golf sets that are not mainstream
- set info (if I have it) for the sports/non-sports sets that these came from and registry links when available
- I'll try to keep an updated chronological list of sets covered and what page they're discussed on in the default thread view (20 posts per page) in this initial post. If you use a view different than the default, you can adjust page numbers accordingly (i.e. if you're set to view 100 posts/page, listings for pages 1-5 here will be your page 1)
What this will not cover:
- Mainstream sets exclusively dedicated to golf (Churchman Famous Golfers, 81/82 Donruss, 90 Pro Set, 01-present UD/SP Auth Golf, etc.)
Feel free to contribute any others you have as well and I'll work to keep the index here updated to the best of my ability.

ETA: I highly recommend this book for any golf card collectors (1994) and it's companion Part 2: Non-tobacco cards (1995) if you can find a copy of either. While the pricing is way out of date, they're both very comprehensive and include most of the oddball stuff pictured in this thread.

1940-45 Mutoscope Hot Cha Girls, 1942 Mutoscope Yankee Doodle Girls, & 1944 Mutoscope Follies Girls
Size: 5.25x3.25"
Manufacturer: International Mutoscope Reel Company
Distribution: Coin Op Vending Machines (at amusement parks primarily)
Top left is the Hot Cha 'Up to Par', top right is the Yankee Doodle 'Up to Par', and the bottom is a period ad that I'm guessing is the 'Not Between Feet' variation noted in the Pop report, if cut from the ad. I don't yet have an example of the 'Plenty on the Ball' from Follies Girls.
ETA: Picked up another Hot Cha and added scan. Not sure if this is a noted variation, but all of the black print at the bottom including the "Up to Par" is shifted a good bit to the left from my other example. Advertised as a 'touching left shoe' variety.
hysterical and this is gonna be a good thread!!!
1959 Kellogg's Fun Cards (Hanna Barbera) - Not currently graded by PSA
Size: Same height and slightly more narrow than a standard trading card
Manufacturer: Kellogg's
Distribution: Cereal boxes
Huck is one of four Hanna Barbera characters available, each with four different cards. This is the only golf related one that I'm aware of.
Size: 1.75x3" (approx)
Manufacturer: Imperial Tobacco
Distribution: Assuming with cigarettes, though haven't been able to find out much about this issue
It's rumored there are other color variations, though I haven't seen any.
Size: Standard

Distribution: Schoolkids everywhere
I think there are * and ** sheet code versions of each.

Manufacturer: Panini

Uno's one of only two golfers in the set. 12x winner in Europe (1941-1957), founder of PGA of Italy (1962). This is the only card I'm aware of for him. Though not easy to find, they are mostly high-grade when you do.
and that ugo card of him kissing ol billy baroo is cool as hell!! ...what did she run if you don't mind me asking?
<< <i>Great thread! I just picked up this Kennedy card at a flea market on Saturday >>
Nice! There's one other golf related card in that set as well, #54 features the family in a golf cart during a vacation in Hyannis Port, MA.

Tough to find in any grade, this is the only copy I've ever had my hands on. Assuming this is the 'Colored' variety, there's also a 'Brown' variety listed in the POP. An old price guide I have lists the versions at $30 (colored) vs. $185 (brown) in NM condition to give an idea of how difficult the 'Brown' version must be. Supposed to be blank backed, mine has '40 in set - No. 6' written/printed on the back in red.

Sarazen is the only golfer I'm aware of in this set better known for the Ruth, Cobb, Speaker, W. Johnson, and Dempsey cards. I would love to upgrade this one at some point to something that could get a number grade, but this one had some of the boldest colors I've seen for this set.

Only two golfers in the set. Roberto played the PGA from 70-80, a total of 28 tournaments and never finished higher than 13th. Best known for his World Cup performances of the late 60s-early 70s and playing in the 69 & 70 Masters. Marina (later Ragher Buscani) played in 12 Women’s World Amateur Team Championships, not much else I can find about her.

#17 (Lost Ball) is the other one golf related, but I don't have a copy of that one yet. There's either not a whole lot of interest in these or they're quite difficult to come by, a total Pop of 4 across the entire set w/#13 currently a Pop 0.

#s 55 & 75 are the golf related shown. Gray borders are the base and pink are the parallels w/pink booking for ~25% more than gray. I'm pretty shocked that anyone actually graded one of these.

Not noted in the Pop are the multiple variations of these. One has 'REAL PHOTOS' on the back while the other has 'Hand Coloured REAL PHOTOS', there are also either one or five golfers pictured, and small/medium versions of each. I'm guessing these are the medium size, larger than a standard tobacco card.

#22 why a golf ball is not smooth? Gallaher had a similar card in 24 also, Reason Why A Golf Ball Is Uneven, that I haven't tracked down a copy of yet. IIRC, the same front image is used on multiple Wills cards from different sets.

Size: a bit wider and shorter than standard tobacco
Manufacturer: Ogden's Ltd.
Distribution: Cigarettes
Currently my oldest golf card (though I'm aware of a few earlier). A beast to find in high grade due to age and black borders (lots of recolors out there). Some of the cards in this set are numbered and others not. #s 475-480 & 14 unnumbered golfers w/one of the unnumbered, Vardon vs. Braid, coming in a vertical format and 5 different photos in horizontal format. My golf price guide mentions 4 variations of each of the #d golfers (all due to differences in the letter 'g' in cigarettes), but it appears from the pop report there are several more than that. It includes the only Old Tom Morris card issued while he was alive, AFAIK.

For all the Purdue fans on the board West Point seems to be the key card featuring golf in this set, I've lost several auctions trying to acquire that one. There are at least 7 of the 100 featuring golf.
<< <i>Loving the Murad cards! I'm an alum of St Lawrence University (my wife too) and they have a card in that set for their rowing team. >>
Thanks! They're a gorgeous design, and I'd love to do those in a bit higher grade, but a lot are sitting in eBay museums. I'll have to check out the St Lawrence card.
Also, updated the Mutoscopes on Page 1 with a new variation.

Manufacturer: Miller Press
Distribution: Uncut Sheets
A 66 card golf set, but given the era quite difficult to find. Miller Press bought the PGA rights from Donruss (and copied the style of the 81/82D) and issued sets from 83-90, primarily as uncut sheets, though singles were also handed out at a couple events each year. This is probably the easiest of the Miller Press sets to locate, right before they sold their PGA rights to Pro Set, increasing in difficulty with each year prior.
