2015 GSNA Show Report

I didn't see a report about this show, so decided I would post one.
Last month the annual Garden State Numismatic Association show was held in Somerset, NJ. The show has been running for many years but it seems attendance has been down. However, I have been trying to attend every year, and have had good success in selling and buying at the show. Often times EAC dealers attend this show. This time Doug Bird and Tom Reynolds were present. Also Cunningham Exonumia is always present with a large variety of fairly priced medals and tokens. Other dealers in attendance included Numismatic Americana, Tom Hyland, Wayne Herndon, Gemini Numismatics, Coinsuperstore and Charles Hertan just to name a few. There was a good amount of silver bullion being traded at the show as silver went up a little over the previous week. Walking around I saw some nice coins, some not so nice coins. Even though the show was in NJ, there were not many CAC'd coins on the show floor. With dealers from different parts of the country in attendance, it was a good place to look for material that may have not been submitted to CAC yet.
So while my main goal was to sell at the show, I did end up buying a coin. One dealer had a few half dimes in old NGC holders. One coin I picked up was an 1840 Half dime graded AU55. I fell in love the color of the coin, and it looked significantly better than the grade of AU55 listed. It wasn't too expensive, so I purchased it. I am happy to say that my initial thoughts were correct as the coin received a gold sticker at CAC. An image of the coin from my Iphone is below. In terms of selling, it was a good sales day with five coins sold including some gold.
If anyone else attended, I would appreciate you posting about it here. This is a great show and should be supported. They get dealers from near and far with some great coins.
Sorry about the terrible Iphone images.

Very nice looking half dime -- sounds like you did all right in the sparse attendance.
