Hello all. My name is Donovan. Used to be on the card forum few years back as the Bill Ripken Collector. Boy was that a fun learning experience. Had to sell my collection and bust my butt to pay off an unexpected debt. Selling my collection has been the hardest thing I've had to do in my life thus far. Still miss it. Done with that debt and now I'm learning about PM to help my son (13 years old) invest his life savings ($6k). So far he has bought 100 2015 ASE. He wants to keep cash on hand to buy a car in 3 years although a liquid investment might be best over cash in the bank imo. He earns appx 2k a year now and wants to invest as much as possible in silver bullion. We both know very little about PM and learning a lot as we go. On here to explore investment possibilities for him. Wow there's many.

My user name is a side business we started. Selling storage auction contents. My avatar is a old one I had years back. Do they still have the icon upload day. Quarterly, monthly or ?

Well that's my story. See you around!

PM's have been a very poor "investment" over the last 4 years. Suggest he purchase series I US Savings bond....

We are looking into bonds. He wants to move more into investments. The silver is good for him due to his age (13) imo. I prefer bonds and he wants stocks and is learning as fast as he can about them.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone.

Welcome aboard Donovan, precious metals and especially silver are excellent ways to get started investing for the future as well as enjoying a satisfying hobby collecting tangible assets.

For near term goals, be aware that speculative investments fluctuate both down and up over time, then there are intermediate and long term trends, so it pays to look at comparative performance of various asset classes over the months and years in the past, as well as consider the month and year you might target cashing in and spending those rainy day funds.
