What are the gold Kennedy half dollars going for these days?

Someone at my coin club meeting last night had a gold Kennedy (0.75 ozt) in the original mint packaging that he was trying to unload. Are these now basically bullion coins or do they carry a premium? I'm tempted to make him an offer but I don't want to insult him with what may be considered a low-ball.

Hadn't checked ebay but someone had one on the BST for a couple dollars over a grand. At least $100 less than recent Mint issue prices.

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

Sounds like there is a noticeable premium over melt. I wonder if this premium over melt will be sustained a few years down the road.image

The mint -still- sells them. Current price @ $1165

They go for over melt on ebay

    I see some from 1050 to 1150

They sold over 70,000 and most went to non-flippers.

I would say these were never hot on ebay. So there was never a fire to fade. However they were hot enough for the mint to sell 70,000+. On top of that, they still bring more than melt on ebay.

Thanks for all the responses. I just phoned him and the best he could do was $1050 which isn't exactly a rip but it seemed fair enough so I bought it.

With a max mintage of 75k and selling @ of less than 100 per week.....it'll be a while before they are "sold out." Total sales so far (percoinupdate)...72,162.

$1,050 is probably as fair as it gets for both parties for a non-70 coin.
