Nice coin, Kyle, definitely deserving of the gold bean. Always a great feeling to see those when seeing results from CAC.

Here was my first one, bought five years ago, stickered last year. It's in an older XF45 holder, but probably would grade AU53 or so today.

Here is another. It is a lot harder getting the gold on that high end 66+ half dime than the Fatty NGC 64 or 65 common Morgans.

Very nice solid 66 CAC gold Morgan for Kyle.

And Wabbit's 1837 NS half dime is to die for. That coin is KRAZY. PCGS has always been stingy on giving out MS67's on no stars half dimes and dimes. That looks closer to MS68 to me than MS67. A coin that NGC could have easily 68'd in the 2002-2008 period. Reminds me of some of the Benson I seated coins from 2002 that were so conservatively graded by PCGS that a few of them got 1-2 point upgrades right after the sale (the 2 pt upgrades coming from NGC).

I really like the OP's coin, the 1871-S gold and the 1837 Half Dimes in this thread. Great stuff.
I have only had two and I sold them both.

The coin appeals to more collectors being in an old NGC slab with the gold CAC sticker.

If it were in a current generation PCGS holder, I'm sure most people wouldn't look twice at it. It would be another run-of-the-mill 66 Morgan, with nice toning.

I also think most gold CAC coins look 1 1/2 to 2 grades under. The market sure seems to price them that way. Your Morgan has a 67 look.

first: mathematics is a wise choice for demonstrating universal truth...however, i'll choose not to debate empiricism vs. platonism (or other mathematical philosophy) in order to keep this thread on topic.

second: i can appreciate you not pointing out which coin(s) in this thread *you think* lack superior eye appeal.

my point is that gold stickered coins tend to have superior eye appeal in addition to being a higher grade, as demonstrated by many (not all) coins in this thread.

regardless of whether you agree with my point or not, perhaps we can agree that eye appeal is an opinion, just as gold stickers and coin grades are.

Good point. It can always go into a MS66 holder down the road. And since some buyers are paying up to 2 grades higher for CAC golds, why even settle for a "MS66" holder? There are no doubt buyers on this board more than willing to pay MS66 for this coin just based on the photo....no returns. MS66 and MS67 common 80-s and 81-s Morgans are generic. CAC golds in 65 or higher only number 74 (38% of the gold stickered Morgans). It's still a pretty exclusive club considering there are >422,000 PCGS Morgans graded MS65/66 (62,000 of those are 81-s). Would you want 1 of 26 like this CAC gold or one of 62,000? Found it interesting that there are only 3 gold sticker Morgans of all dates in MS66 or higher (they happen to be 80-s and 81-s).

I'm glad these old holders are still around to show what standards were in effect back in 1986-1990. This particular coin may have been 100% blast white when it was submitted in the 1980's. I would figure it doesn't get any prettier over time.

I agree, the coin is the most important aspect hands down. However there are a number of slab and sticker collectors out there, and having a coin that appeals to a broader audience is always a plus when it comes time to sell.

Just my opinion, of course.
