You bought it because you thought the reverse looked cool?
    Any other reason?

I suppose that rarity and historical importance entered into it.

WOW!!! I think this is the king of Seated half dollar varieties: one of the 4 known CSA originals!

    OMG

    ....the ....originals.... yikes.

Could you mail it to me just to ...touch... it? image

Wait. The postage would break me. No...wait..again... it's over the Reg limit so the ARMORED CAR would cost too much.

    As you were.
    WOW!

That is an amazing coin. Congratulations!

There are few coins that transcend numismatics, but that is certainly one.

Clue me in......how can one tell this is one of the originals vs a re-strike? I know nothing about these except there are re-strikes......

    Hi Craig,

The obverse die crack from the nose to the rim is characteristic of the original CSA halves, but there are some restrikes that also have the die crack. However, the restrikes have a crushed look to the obverse as that is the way they were struck. Plus of course the weight is more for the originals, because the restrikes had their reverses ground off before restriking. Of course we can't determine weight by the pix, but the die crack and the non-crushed obverse clearly define this coin as one of the 4 originals.
