I just purchased another 1926 Buff, this makes number 3. I love this year for the buffalo nickel series as it tends to have great luster and eye appeal if ya can locate the right one for your collection. I've been lucky enough to have located 3 of em. For this date they're not known for great, really hammered strikes although if ya look hard enough you might get lucky. Most found in MS grades tends to have a soft strike on the knot on the Indian's braid. Most MS pieces found are likely to have robust luster and frosty except for dies that were over extended and then you'll see heavy flow lines just like any other dies that were used beyond they're life expectancy.
Here's the ones I wanna show today. One is PCGS, another is in an old ANA slab and then an NGC graded piece. If ya feel like it you can go ahead and try getting the assigned grades correct, although I sure don't agree with one or two of em ... At any rate here they are. Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome, good or bad.
Happy hunting, Joe
This was a tough one. My opinion is they all look 66 to me, especially the ANA one is over the 65 grade, it is an amazing piece. Thanks to all for playing along, Joe

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

<< <i>65, 66, and 66 >>
Sign me up for that as well.
i love the middle one
awesome examples...probably dug out of seat cushion of a duesenberg or something
Wouldn't Even try and guess the grades, they are all three Amazing.
#2 has so many details i never see on Buffalo's. Even the wrinkles under his eye.
Thank You for sharing
Edited to add that maybe the middle one is held back by some hits on the Indians cheek and buffalo front leg, and maybe some scratches through Indian's hair I would prefer to not see at the 66 level

<< <i>Hmmm, if we are saying two assigned grades are disagreeable i will go 65, 66, 65, first one I feel could be held back by the spots, last one by stike. The middle one is the nicest in my opinion. >>
Agreed. I almost always look at the braid detail first on the obverse. That sets the middle coin apart. Luster looks pretty solid for all three. Great photos, as we expect from Joe.

the graders were grading into their overtime that day or
this coin had a bunch of doggy chewed up lead in coins

I don't get it. The 1st one I think is solid for the grade, not to mention CAC agrees. Not the best strike but the luster sure as heck makes up for it. So, #1 coin shown is the only one I agree with. The other two just look better than the 65 assigned.
Thanks again, Joe
