Give your last impulsive, "what the heck" purchase

I just paid for a roll of Walking Liberty halves just to have some WLH's around to look at. It doesn't hurt that they're made of 90% silver either. Pure impulse. I'm now enjoying looking at a batch of 30's Walker's, lots of mint marks, in G-F condition.

Any stories of 'what the heck', impulsive purchases that turned out to be 'winners'?
I figured what the heck.

That right there is cool. I bet lots of collectors do that type of thing.
I love having a bunch of old janky silver to play with.
Mine was a OGH 26D quarter in PC64 with an 80% head. I don't care for the series but I like the design and don't think I've owned one above VG. It was just time I suppose.
Of course, the coin does not fit in with my collection, and I am now wondering what to do with it,

Hmm, I paid $22.50 ea.
Trying to figure out what the date is on the one on the top left. I can flip the Morgans for $20 ea easily, so hey, I'm spending $10 on a shot at a better date hah. I regret it already ugh.

I had a guy in the shop diss me yesterday for offering that much for his. His were common date Peace, and clearly much worse than those. Nice score.
The only consolation for me yesterday, is there were other customers in. A dad and his kids. I nearly sold a Susan B Anthony for $1.15. … instead, it ended up being a giveaway to make me feel better.
I don't have a photo, but if someone wants it, I'll post a couple.

It looks like a Duesenbuerg to me. They called them "Doozies" back in the day. I wish I had that kind of "pin money."

C'mon, Crazyhounddog. That's not yours. You just borrowed another car from your pal Jay Leno.

I have an acquaintance (gold bug) who owns 10 Deusenberg models in various states of restoration. He just turned down a $1M offer for a fully restored one.

Almost exactly a year ago I got this. You might think it's the Barber quarter, but it's not.
It's actually the rock. It's a little over 34 grams. It only cost me $14,000... so about $400 a gram.
As you might guess, it's not your average rock. It's actually a Martian meteorite, e.g. a piece of Mars that landed on the Earth's surface (specifically in Morocco).
I had been wanting to get a Martian meteorite for years, but the price was through the roof, basically $1,000 a gram, with most pieces being dinky... on the order of 2 - 3 grams, so I stopped looking for them and spent my money on other space memorabilia. A couple of years ago a Martian meteorite (about 7 kilos, e.g. 7,000 grams, in total) landed in Morocco. I was aware of the meteorite, but there were plenty of other space items to spend my money on, so I didn't really follow it.
Last spring a very wealthy space collector friend of mine, Steve, bought some lunar meteorite samples, and given that he was dropping ~ $250,000 he had the meteorite dealer, swing by his office with a variety of meteorite samples. Steve used the occasion to invite various friends and business associates over to see both his space collection (worth well into the 7 figures) and the meteorite samples. The dealer brought both lunar and martian meteorite samples with him. The lunar meteorite samples at $200,000 - $250,000 a pop were well out of my price range, but because of the relatively recent meteorite fall in Morocco, the price of a relatively large Martian meteorite, had come within my price range, so I jumped on the chance to get the meteorite pictured above, even though I had no clue when I left the house that morning that I was going to buy anything.
Here's yours truly in front of the lunar samples. The framed ones run from $200,000 - $250,000, while the big one I'm grinning over will run you $2,000,000.

(Yeah, it's paper- and not even paper money. But I've sorta been thinking of putting together a scrapbook of bad old ads for awhile: stuff that's wacky, disturbing, ironic, politically incorrect, etc.)
PS- if we're talking only numismatic stuff, I've still got a couple rolls of dateless Type 1 Buffalo nickels I bought a couple years ago, with the idea of having custom elongated coins done from them. But I never got around to that.
<< <i>^^ Megalodon? That's awesome. So are the moon rocks & Mars rocks. Never thought of that ... >>
Yep. He got that one from me.

I was just walking by a table and saw this sitting out there.
My scanner did not do it justice; it is really quite pretty.
