yep
Loves me some shiny!
Why? Nice size, government backed, accepted everywhere, and nearly always trading at a slight premium to melt - ASEs fill the bill for me. YMMV.
P.S. This is if physical silver is your choice. Paper silver is appealing to many people.
Why? I like to stack, but will sell every ASE and J&M bar when the time is right and will unload almost all of my 90%, I love the older coins so regardless of a selloff I will keep a few Morgans, Franklin and Walkers.

I don't know how much 90% silver has really been melted; I suppose that some percentage actually has been melted and still a lot remains. So the recognition factor will be around a long time. The more that gets melted, the more likely it will start to gain some premium over melt.
40 years ago, non-cull 90% silver dollars did have a premium, but the minor coins did not. Now, non-cull 90% half dollars generally carry some premium as well, especially Walking Liberty halves. Any way you slice it, 90% silver US coinage is a reasonable way to own some silver.
In the meantime, Silver Eagles have become the dominant and most well-known silver bullion out there. Weiss's comments concerning the recognition factor, the US Mint being the largest and one of the highest quality production facilities in the world for silver coinage, and the fact that you live in the USA - these are compelling reasons to stick with US silver coinage, both old and new.
The main reason to buy 1 oz. silver bars - is because, as you stated in the OP, you prefer them. Apparently there are lots of silver bar collectors and stackers, which helps with the liquidity of the market, which is important when you decide to sell.
If you must know, these are the reasons why.
I knew it would happen.
And a small amount of physical for worst case scenarios.

My 20 year silver plan is 90% SLQ's with dates VG or better are a great value
Short to medium term 90% halfs

Nice designs, relatively low mintages, and many are available at a modest premium above spot.
