Don't click on the link in the body of the mass email as it's probably a nasty virus.

This is exactly what happened. It was not hacked. Any good spam filter should catch this. Thanks the Broadstruck for bringing this to my attention. It was an old email address that hasn't been used in years.

they hack the account to harvest the email list to spoof the spam to.
So, it was hacked first, then spoofed.
the bad thing is that they do not need to spoof the same email address. They will spoof the name and spoof another email address. It will show up as an email from the person, but a check of the email address will show a new one. They are getting more clever.
