Unnecessary commemorative coin program

I know U.S. commems are often basically a political program to honor/reward certain interests and constituencies. But I almost laughed out loud when I opened up a piece of "official mail" from the U.S. Mint this evening... they're hawking "225th Anniversary" coins for the U.S. Marshals Service. Not just one coin, but three -- including a $5 gold piece. Seriously? A random anniversary (225), a random government agency that has little in the way of a public profile... are they aiming for a lowest-ever modern mintage? Or is there some demand for these that is somehow escaping me?

<< <i>Overall I agree with you, but these actually look kind of cool. I'll buy a set and use them to represent modern commems in my type set.

Agreed on the $5 gold... I actually think the design is pretty cool, especially the eagle. But you know, I just don't get why this program is happening.

<< <i>Well, it's not like there is any important anniversary coming up in 2015, like say the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.

Or the 100th anniversary of the Panama-Pacific Exposition. Why this one has slipped through the cracks, I don't know. The bill is languishing somewhere...

<< <i>I'm looking forward to it. Like they say opinions are like rectums. Your rectum is noted.

My gut feeling tells me that this commem. will be one of the more successful ones. Although, I do not collect modern commems, I have to admit, that the design for each denomination is exceptional.
That being said....the more the merrier!
Did I actually say that!!!???

not sure what you collect, but the same holds true whenever you purchase a coin or collectible item.
I have 0 interest in these Marshalls Coins. Pure junk.
