Buffalo nickel newps *Grades are in!*

Ok, so they aren't the rarest or superb condition, but I love it when an eBay deal like this works out. I saw this seller had some nice buffs listed with what looked like nice toning, so I pulled the trigger on all of them.

Here is what they came in, which is just neat to me, being that the labels look like they were typed out on a typewriter. So I can only assume these coins had been squirreled away for a number of years:

And here are the coins (sellers pics that I cropped up, not the best, but you get the idea):

All MS to my eyes, potentially some nice grades. Even though they are not high dollar, I sent them in to our host for grading. Waiting on the results still, but I'll keep you posted.

  • Thanks! Although I fully expect one of my favorites of the group, the 1930, to only get in a genuine holder. It's hard to see in the pic, but there is a planchet void on the upper part of the buffalo's left front leg. *Sometimes* these squeak through in a regular holder since it isn't post mint damage, however I'm not holding my breath on this one image

Nice group. I think that the '30 will make it!

Its a shame the 30-P has the planchet flaw. Looks to be a really nice strike for the date with nice eye appeal. Congrats!

From what I see I would be happy if I collected Buff's. I'm not sure I would pay fees to grade tho as they are tough these days.

A very nice looking herd of Buffalos! That type of Whitman coin holder was introduced in the early 1960s so they may have been in those holders for many, many years.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • I am quite happy with the results image The 1930 genie-ed as I suspected, but it was still worth a shot:

    1 3966 1929 5C USA MS65
    2 3969 1930 5C USA Genuine - UNC Details (93 - Planchet Flaw)
    3 3971 1931-S 5C USA MS65
    4 3978 1936-D 5C USA MS65

Thanks all for the nice comments!

Good eye, Travis! I'll bet the 1930 has real knockout color-more than enough to make up for the gen grade.
  • Type2Type2 Posts: 13,985 ✭✭✭✭✭
You can send the one back and they will grade it but you will need to sub it as a Error and it will holder with lamination Error or what ever it is. Good eye keep up the good work.

    Sweet!

Aside from the planchet flaw, I'll bet the house that that '30 is also at least a 65.

Those Buffaloes are top notch and worthy of a fine collection.
