2014 ends with Carter not ending

MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 40,200 ✭✭✭✭✭
It appears the presidential and spouse coins end with Ford.

It will definitely take an act of Congress to restart.

Does the republican congress wish to see Carter and Reagan (and maybe Sr) honored?

My understanding is that federal law precludes the depiction of living persons on U.S. coins. I doubt that would ever change. And even if allowed, I doubt the legislature cares. In my opinion, the Mint has already milked the series as much as it could. It is time to move on.

Edited: Just to clarify, I realize that Reagan is dead. If Congress was interested in honoring him, I think the Republican majority would be more likely to make silver or gold commemorative coins instead of his image on base metal coinage, but I could be wrong.

I often wondered what would happen when this day would come.

Hopefully one of the coin mags gets an official word from the mint Re: how the series ends and what the law says.

Of course, there's more to the story. What will our poor mint sets do without those extra coins? (I better not give the mint any ideas for new series)

Will Congress give the idea 100 years off or pursue the living? (Johnson and Nixon made it)

It would be nice to see Reagan on the $10 bill, and Liberty back on all of our coinage. image

being regan revoked john kennedy's executive order 11110 with his 12608

    Both are the rumor

As for presbucks, the law that creates them says no living & must be dead for 2 years.

    Both are true

Eunice kennedy Shriver died in 2009

31 USC 3114 (b) only deceased may appear on US currency and securities.

But keep in mind these are Congressional edicts and Congress can make exceptions to their own rules.

I remember reading somewhere that Nancy Reagan didn't want the president honored on money for some reason.

As far as Shriver goes, don't forget she was a Kennedy. It has always seemed rules don't apply to the Kennedys.

Nancy Reagan has stated numerous times that she doesn't want "Ronnie" on any coin.

So-o-o-o, while she is still with us, it just isn't going to happen.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

One of the problems with the series was that the price for each issue was high. Maybe ending it now will be a plus.

    Granted image

When this series started, I began wondering about Washingtonians image
And it seemed like a "good idea" and some kind of NEW DEAL was born

And things were coming up Roosie

    image

I thought it was COOL edge lettering them image

But with the LAW as is, I'm glad it's nearly over.

I can't stand incompletion, though. Sort of reminds me of the 2009 SAE Proofs giving way to BULLION dealers feeding a frenzy

I wouldn't be surprised if Congress votes to "extend" the presidential dollar series for each newly deceased former president. I doubt that the same will apply to the First Spouse series, however.

Not sure how the U.S. Mint "milks" anything, given that they do only what is required of them via legislation.

The current legislation only needs to be modified to state that the program ends with the last non-living president, rather than what it says now, that is, when the first living president is reached.

JFK assassinated Nov 1963, appears on the 64 half. Congress must have overrode the two year rule.

With the comments I have heard I did not think anyone cared about what came after Jackie O.
