"Man will never be perfect until he learns to create and destroy; he does know how to destroy, and that is half the battle.” - Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo
The day is just begun, though I do rather like the early bird thread . It (first purchase of the year) is a surprise, but will post it when it walks in and a deal is made, no matter how trivial.
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko.
It's not American, but it could have been if things had gone another way.
1787 Proof Shilling, ESC 1217 (R4 11-20 known) Plain Edge Proof with Stops, unpriced in Spink with just a notation Extremely Rare. This is the PCGS PF64+ example and there is one other graded 64 at NGC. The slab has some scratches so at some point I'll have to send it in to reholder.
Beautiful JCMhouston ! Reminds me of the first coin that I attempted to buy in 2015....alas, it was not to be Not sure how long I'll need to wait for another one, but hopeful !

<< <i>I purchased a coin last night, was 2014 still for me but 2015 where the seller was located, not sure if that counts. >>
So you reached into the future and purchased a coin? That could interrupt the numismatic space-time continuum and cause a time quake.

I didn't pick or choose the box of brass and bronze medals and tokens that walked in on the first. There were about 30 oddball pieces in all.
Nothing spectacular, though always a story to be told from inside and behind the other side of the counter.
That brings back memories. I visited Buffalo Bill's grave on Lookout Mountain when I was a kid.
