Happy New Year TDN and to your family also. May you and yours have a great up coming year. The coin is such a beauty, this is the first time I have seen one of these let alone one as nice as this. Thank you for sharing.
i always wondered what the coin looked like when it was just minted! Simply speculator in every respect. One day, I would love to see it in person and hold it.
<< <i>That's a neat little broken dentil at S7 on the obverse. The toning pattern with the streaks ? (is that from storage ? ) >>
My first thought that those "streaks" were haymarks (tin impurities in the silver/copper alloy) akin to those frequently seen on William IV and Anne coinage, but they wouldn't bother me.
My friends on this forum, I have a confession. I tried to find this coin on CoinFacts, at least to the proper attribution. Spent a few hours noting the significant deviations. I thought the coin that TDN posted was a dollar, and therein lied the issue. When you come to understand that the coin is a quarter, then the numismatic stars finally start to align. I just wanted to know the grade, which TDN did not reveal in the OP.
In a PM TDN was gracious enough to tell me where he sourced the images and then I was able to finally understand that this was not a counterfeit dollar, it is a MS66 quarter.
Just wondering how many others thought this was a dollar????????

But the pics are bad. Coins are not lit from within by white light.
Would love to see a basic photo of it.
