An entire new pitching staff is not something that can be fixed once the season starts >>

    Step one, Cole Hamels.

Step two, move one starter to the bullpen. Masterson could go to the bullpen and fire hard sinkers for an inning or two about three times a week. That would improve the bullpen too.

I think after that, another starter would be needed. That would do the job.

Well, I'm just about out of words...

The Red Sox team is in total disarray, they aren't even competitive and at this point are rapidly becoming the joke of the AL East, if not MLB.

Yet another SEVEN RISPs that get stranded. Oh, while I'm at it...wonder boy went 0-4, and 0-2 with RISPs...batting a PALTRY .111. So please, don't tell me how great he is, or that he changed water into wine in High School. He is nothing but a mediocre catcher, no more, no less.

Time for me to check out for a while...this is just really a total waste of time. How these guys can accept their insane paychecks every other Monday for what they do on the field is a mystery to me. Just google Red Sox salaries 2015 and do the math...6 months of playing baseball about 3 hours a day...blah, blah. INSAAAAAAAAAAAANNNE. I'm thinking Cherington and Farrell should follow Nieves...always the low level guy that gets gelded. This is what you get when you pay up front for future performance. DUMB, DUMB, DUMBER.

OK, you heard it here first...Turn out the lights...the parties over

I'm goin bass fishin with my buds and slam down some brewskies.

He can only fire so many guys before he gets the axe.

Sooner or later it comes down to that when your hand picked team sucks.

The funny thing is that I bet at some point they will put together a run of W's and give us a glimmer of hope then fold like a cheap tent, classic Old School Red Sox style image
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Right now, I would take that!

if he hits his weight he will be doing better than a bunch of others already on the team!

I say hire Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling as pitching coaches.

And if necessary, put them back in the rotation as well.

finally, one for the W column today!
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I liked how the new pitching coach was on Buchholz after the 1st and 2nd innings. He squared away after that.

It was also good to see those 2 home runs.

I am glad to see Craig sent to the minors to learn how to hit again (if he doesn't at least he isn't any problem down there) and Napoli starting to hit again.

I expect Bradley to be sent down today and Victorino activated. If he gets hurt again he is gone I hope as it is happening too often.

Castillo is hitting well at Pawtucket so he should be ready soon..

Management is on the problems and I also expect to see either Johnson or Rodrigues to take their place of Masterson in the rotation ( maybe both of them).

If that doesn't work then a trade will happen but not until they try internal possibilities first.

    My two cents worth!

time to DFA Masterson? He just lasted 2.1 and only let up five runs image

edit: make that six runs. Wright let one of his runners score

did they just win the series against the A's? Amazing!

Miley pitched a gutsy game today for sure and Nava finally got a key hit.
  • TheVonTheVon Posts: 2,725
I took the day off yesterday and drove down to Oakland with some friends to catch the game. We were joking beforehand about the difference in the two starters' ERAs and how there was no way Miley was going to outpitch Sonny Gray. I still don't think he did outpitch Gray, but amazing Miley was able to work out of several jams and drop his ERA about 1.30 points. I'm not ready to say he's turned the corner or anything like that, but it's encouraging to see the Sox combine for a shutout even if it was against a struggling team.

You guys that went to bed early missed a great game last night but I understand why you did that.

Thats classic Boston Red Sox right there, I wrote that game off as an automatic loss so they win LOL

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
11 runs in the past six games. That's a Buffalo Sabres level offense there!
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
They have improved their pitching but there are still a few more additions and subtractions that need to be done for them to be competitive.

Rodriguez and or Johnson need to come up along with Castillo.

Breslow,Napoli and Victorino need to go, they are washed up.

I would keep Craig in Pawtucket to see if he can get his swing back.

Hitting is a big problem right now and needs to be addressed.

Do more coaches need to go?

    How about Gedman?

although Gedman is pretty old and never was a good hitter, he could probably improve their offense. I'd bat him no higher than sixth, though. image

.500 is still a realistic goal, if they stay healthy.

    Playoffs, not so much.

Feel the need to occasionally identify my status as being a life long Yankees man when I chime in this thread.

I don't think you can rule anyone out as being the AL East division champ and making the playoffs. That includes Boston.
    I would agree, no wildcards.
It's a fragile division and I think it's going to be a stumble to the finish.

Once in the playoffs, I have low expectations.

And as always............it's early yet. Long way to go.

Eh 3rd place and less than 4 games out I think, anything is possible at this point but I highly doubt the Sox have what it takes.
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
scored a run tonight. That's a positive sign. Maybe more than one a game and things will start looking up!
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Castillo is just waiting in the wings. He will be up before the weekend. Ramirez needs to go on the DL in my opinion, he is hurting.

    YADP...Yet Another Dismal Performance.

How you posters can continue with your irrational exuberance over this team is a mystery to me. The Red Sox have blown another painful 1 run loss at home. Do you guys ever read the stats of the game?

TWELVE LOBs, 1-8 in the RISP department...that's one run scored with 8 runners on 2nd or 3rd base. The mighty savior from the West (Ramirez) went 0-5 and hasn't driven in a run in some 62+ PAs...that's plate appearances.

The highlight of the game was Swihart's throw to first to get the opponent napping.

Now you think Castillo...yet another savior possibility...really? I thought Swihart was gonna be the big spark, now it's Castillo.

Only a miracle is gonna save this season !! I'm glad I don't have the ability to watch each game, how disappointing it must be to have so much hope in such a dysfunctional team.

In closing...bases loaded with one out...CHOKE AGAIN!!! And, they only got to that point because Beltre dropped the ball.

  • bxbbxb Posts: 805 ✭✭
I don't actually watch the games - too painful.

Best I can do is check the ESPN box scores.

Right now they are the 5th best team in a weak 5 team division, so like the previous poster said, there is hope for a postseason.

Got to thinking...maybe it would help if Ortiz did his "blow up" routine in the Red Sox dugout, like he did in Baltimore...whacking the snot out of a phone, endangering any and all players within a small radius of his childish tirade. Of course this is just frustration, and he can get away with it...one wonders, had a shard of plastic impaled a teammates eye and blinded him, how the Red Sox and MLB would handle his $2k destruction action.

Make NO mistake, I'm a Red Sox fan and have been since the very early 50s. However, when the team is not performing and there appears to be nobody in the wheelhouse, I call it like I see it. The stats do not lie, they're there for all to see...and they're pretty disgusting. There are MEGA millionaires on this team...and the lowest paid guy ain't on Ramen noodles. They are paid to perform because they are "professional athletes". Once again, google or duckduck their salaries and you will see obscene payrolls. Ramirez alone makes over $100k per game...think he's worth it?

The team is dysfunctional at best...for those who can't wait for 7PM and NESN or whatever channel, I kinda feel sad for you...you have uber high expectations, when in fact they are on life support. Bringing up this guy and that guy ain't gonna fix the problem. They need to find some cohesiveness, play like champions and figure out what the hell is wrong with this club. Short of a bonafide miracle, this season is O-V-A-H.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
The pitching is now holding them in there at this point.

Swihart is doing what he is told to do and that is concentrating on the pitching staff right now and not to worry about his hitting.

That will happen as he goes along.

Castillo too is part of the fix that is needed.

Ramirez is hurting right now but a short stint on the DL will help him and Castillo is hitting right now so why not see what he can do.

They are only 2.5 games out so IF they can get it together shortly they will be in business.

I understand how you feel but the problems are fixable still so I will not give up on them.

It's not over till its over in my mind.

    GO RED SOX!

    I love the Red Sox.

    I'm with you barndog.

Tweaking is what is needed now as I've been saying.

The rest of the east division is up for grabs.

The Yankees are on the downward slide .

    Go Sox!

Well, here we are, another BBL...Big Bucky Loss. The Buckster is now 2-5 with an ERA of 4.58. I guess a salary of $12 million doesn't buy what it used to. This for 6 months of throwing a baseball every 5th game...truly, truly mind-boggling coin...oh, they're normally gone in 6 innings...do the math, it is sickening to see what they make for the output.

The Red Sox continue to excel in the RISP department, with another stellar 0-6...as in we can't drive in any runs, we just like to leave them on 2nd and/or 3rd base. Let's not forget the 2 errors, which now total 4 in the last 3 games. The team has now performed so well as to be on pace to match a 1945 record of 67 games in a season scoring 2 or fewer runs per game. The record is 69 games held by the 1926 team...there is some valid optimism that the 2015 team will eclipse that rather dubious achievement...hope springs eternal.

Need more...that great savior from the west...i.e. Ramirez has not had an RBI in the month of May...geez, $19 million doesn't cut it there either...oh yeah, he's hurt, or something. BS !!!

Rumor has it that the true savior, the one, the only Master Castillo will be on hand tonight to avenge the angry baseball Gods and reverse this whole nightmare. The Hood blimp has been hired to announce this event, and is now circling Gillette stadium in hopes of sucking up some karma (can't deflate a baseball), then it will move on to Kenmore Square where the ever faithful can see first hand that all is well. Another "spark" the team needs, like Swihart..who, I must say did make a nice throw to first for the pickoff...see, I'm not totally down on them...just 99%.

Let's see now, baseball being a big business and all...the annual salary of the team is $166,770,400. Approximately 25% of the season is gone, thus, the ownership has paid $41,692,600 in salaries so far. Think they are getting bang for buck??? NOT!!!.

Need more happiness??? Now come the Los Angeles Angels.

Have a great time watching the games.

I will watch all 3 games and hope for the best.

I love baseball and the Red Sox even though they are going through some tough times right now.

I remember sitting through some other tough games back in the late 50's and early 60's but the difference was I had to travel from Walpole to Fenway and pay my hard earned

money (less than a dollar an hour at that time) to watch them lose and they had Ted Williams playing then so I can take the ups and downs.

    Go Sox!
