I gave up in the 12th inning. Mujica needs to get on the bus out of town. You don't choke with 1 out to win and give up the tying run.

Finally forming an opinion of the team...so far, so good. Looks like they play well together and everything is jelling nicely. Didn't know most of the players, but I think Cherrngton put together a definite contender for the penant and beyond. So.............

    GO SOX !!!!

I watched all 19 innings and then could not get to sleep so played pogo until 5 am ( 7 am your time) before taking a nap. Now for some coffee and get ready for round 2 this morning in 3 1/2 hours.

I got extremely heated when I saw that 9th inning shot fly over the wall and walked away from watching it, glad they won kudos to anyone staying in front of the tv watching that one..

Maybe they do have five aces as Buchholz says. Kelly sure looked good today.

Don't forget that those 2 teams played 19 innings last night and both had very few of their regulars playing today and both teams also exhausted all of their pitchers last night also.

They could not call up any replacements from triple A as they just reassigned them from spring training and could not recall them for 10 days per league rules.

How much longer can they keep Castillo down in triple A with the way he is hitting?

They need to do something with Victorino or Ortiz even if it is unpopular.

Neither one of those guys are the future as Castillo IS.

Any suggestions or am I off base here?

I have thick skin so you wont hurt my feelings.

If you play regular it can be slow getting a table filled but frozen pile games start pretty quick. I never liked to play with a frozen pile when I was playing a ton but now I only get to play once or twice a week and I get slaughtered in the regular games. I lost my edge image and frozen pile games are all I can handle lately .

I used to like pinochle too but I haven't played in a few years . The card games are dying on pogo in favor of other things lately if you go by the number of players at least.

    so he's back: Suckholz.

Seven runs in the first, should I even stick around to watch the rest? image
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Blowouts happen so forget about it and concentrate on the home opener tomorrow.

    Uehara comes back tomorrow.

Hopefully they dump their current closer Mujica, he sucks, gave up another homer tonight.

Betts had a good day today!

Victorino is running out of time. Castillo is breathing down his neck.

Im hoping Betts can turn into what they wanted Jackie Bradley to be

injured his shoulder. Shane can rest easy, though Brock Holt ignites the team whenever he plays.

  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I agree but hopefully the rotation will settle in.

Good Start -- so this is the Sox m.o. now -- WS one year, Last place, WS, last place. I'll take it! image

P.S. Saw a couple spring training games at Jet Blue -- awesome park!

Mujica turned in a flawless 1 1/3. Good for him
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
That was one hell of a game. Kelly is the ace they have been looking for it seems.

Great read by Napoli on the baserunning. They seem to be clicking like 2013 so far!

    I hate watching Buchholz pitch.

To be fair...where was the offense? Isn't Ramirez getting a bajillion a year? He looked kinda sandlot to me.

BTW, Bucky didn't give up the tater late in the game...not that I'm a Bucky fan, but, let's call it like it happened.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I think a mistake was made when they did not get rid of Victorino as he is too prone to injuries. I understand he goes 100% all the time but that is not always a wise move. Yes it would cost them big money but it will cost them that money anyway with him on the disabled list and they do have Castillo down in the minors. I also understand why they want to give the starting 5 pitchers a chance to prove themselves but I hope they don't wait too long to make that decision.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
They are not going to win many games when their starting pitching gives up 8 runs.

I don't care how many power hitters they have.
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
which team is the real team that will play the remainder of 162? Can't figure it out
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,657 ✭✭✭✭✭

winning with an unearned run and a 1-0 final, sweet! I read they've scored 19 unearned runs already this year. Keep that mojo up!
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I am impressed with them winning with unearned runs but am concerned that they are not hitting overall. Napoli and Victorino are not hitting a lick and Pedroia is hitting in streaks. These things are rally killers and cant be overlooked.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
They do need help by addition and subtraction.

I hope they can do it and soon.

They are still in 1st place but wont be there long without those necessary moves.

Can they do it without damaging their future still remains to be seen.
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
Is there anything that Brock Holt can't do?
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I wish they all were that good!

Can they sacrifice him one day a week to pitch also?

I am sure they can find one of those multi- millionaire hitters to work an extra day in the field to replace him for 1 day a week.

  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Do they have a plan B, if so they had better break it out.
  • bxbbxb Posts: 805 ✭✭
Sorry to rain on anyone's parade boys, but as I said earlier, they ain't goin' anywhere with this starting pitching.

I'm looking at a .500 season, if they stay healthy.

Agreed their pitching is the issue, I was never excited about it to begin with.

I think they can do better than .500 though image

the calls for a trade with Philadelphia must be getting louder!
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I hope they don't decide to trade their prized catcher but if they do make that mistake i hope they get Papplebon and Hammels in return for him. Hammels alone will not solve their problems at this point. They need a closer bad. Blowouts like what happened yesterday happen but what happened Sat was not good.
