Agree. Uehara is getting old and can't pitch back to back games anymore without getting tired and losing velocity and movement on his throws - and I'm not sure he can last a whole season (remember how he faded last year). They need to use him less, and will need a second closer.
<< <i>The Yankees don't make me nearly as angry as the rediculous pitchinf staff the Red Sox have. >>
Well I fully expected our pitching to be a problem before the season started, I also thought the Yankees were going to be awful but instead they are holding there own and my two most hated Yankees ( Arod & Tex ) are contributing to it
Watching the Red Sox every day, day after day, is like checking your 401k every night. Things go up, things go down. LONG term is the goal...like the stock market, over time it has gone up on average 11%...worry when August rolls around and see what the numbers are.
Take a break and don't get involved in each and every game. Over analyzing will make you crazy.
I don't have the baseball package this year for the very reasons mentioned above. There's gotta be a bazillion things to do once in a while than be glued to the tube. No question that Red Sox managment is well aware of the negatives...things take time to evolve, make moves, trades, etc. Ok...so Friday night++, enjoy the Fenway faithful booing the crap out of ARod. So what if he hits homers, then or next week...it's just baseball, no more, no less.
Focus on the important stuff in your life...to me, it sure isn't the Red Sox and their performance.
9 LOBs, 6 RISPs and a paltry effort at the plate by the Red Sox team. Let us not forget the IDIOT who cost the team a run with his inept reaching for the bouncing ball. I hope he got tossed for interfering with a fair ball. Had that clown not done that, ARod's homer would only have tied the game. You can be assured ARod is in uber-gloat mode.
If the Red Sox continue to lose one-run games at home and elsewhere, it's gonna be a very, very long season. Precious losses early in the season will easily take their toll in August.
BTW, the count on ARod got to 3-0 before he hit the homer. I would have walked him at that point...to avoid the obvious...I ain't the manager. The worst part of that was seeing Ellsbury high-fiving and laughing with ARod in the dugout.
Bringing up a player or sending a player down does not make a winning team., Sweihart or anyone else. One wonders why Ortiz doesn't work on hitting, bunting or doing anything to the acres of dirt between 2nd and 3rd base.
Yes he is a rookie but he could provide the spark they need at this point. It is time for them to cut some deadwood and bring up a couple of more rookie pitchers to go along with him. Eat some contracts if they have to but make some more moves now instead of later when it is too late.
You can't remake the team with a bunch of rookies...will NOT work. I'm not down on Swihart, but geez already, you make him sound like Yaz, Williams, Dewey and Pedro all wrapped into one package. He's a rookie, he can't spark a match.
The problem is the leader of the team, Pedroia or Ortiz need to have a closed door and rip some ASH. These guys are being paid a mind-numbing fortune to PLAY a kid's game, only at the highest level. Imagine making the coin they make for 6 months a year, 3 hours a day, 6 days a week...AND toss in trade shows, autographs, local advertisements...like Pedroia and the goofy tire guy...AND retirement pensions that are sicko big.
Can't just keep dumping this guy and that guy and bring up rookies...the rookies gotta mellow and get ready, not go from A ball to the bigs.
Swihart will bring no spark, but I hope he succeeds...although doubtful. Only time will tell.
Why not focus on the box score like I do and see where the need is...RISP and LOB, ERA, etc. How in God's name is Swihart gonna spark that? Ain't gonna happen...he has enough to worry about with learning the pitchers, the ballparks, the hitters, calling the game, getting along...and a bazillion other things. The likes of Pedroia, Ortiz, and pathetic Napoli (among others) need to get this program in gear, or it's gonna be another shoulda, coulda, woulda.
Somebody better start bringing the guys in from 2nd and 3rd, or you can cash it in.
And as far as Swihart goes, I have watch him since high school in Rio Rancho so know what he is made of. Yes he is a rookie but will learn what he needs to very quickly and will be in consideration for rookie of the year this year and has seen the last of the minor leagues. HE IS THAT GOOD.
Get over the Swihart thing already....I don't care if he lived in your house...just because you saw some player in high school who lived near you and played well, means NADA
He cant do it all by himself for sure but he is a big part of what is to come. They have a lot of moves to make this next couple of months if they are going to do well. Starting pitching still sucks and the only one hitting consistantly right now is panda.
I am glad Swihart got the call because I've been looking forward to seeing him play for a long time now. But I agree that he's not the missing piece. For as bad as some of our veterans have been hitting, offense isn't the problem for the Red Sox. They are currently in 7th in all of baseball with 122 runs scored. That's pretty close to 5 runs a game. The problem is that they've given up 134 runs which is only four less than the worst team in the league (Toronto). They have already lost 5 games this year when the offense scored 5 runs or more.
If they can't bring the team ERA down under 4.50 they might as well consider 2015 another "bridge year".
That godawful James Taylor mess yikes no more of that please I'm going to be sick. And they were 4000 under a sell out for a yankee game too. Someone told me they were selling tickets for like 10 bucks each right before the game to unload them.
If I could get a ticket for 10 bucks I'd go but not on a Sunday. Who wants to go to a 5 hour long Sunday night game even for 10 bucks? Can't plan on riding the train home on at midnight either. I suppose it would work if it was warm enough to sleep on a park bench though
An all around nice cheap date for a gal you don't fancy much
The experiments just keep getting worse with Ramirez hurting himself crashing into the wall. He is so out of place if left field and is just costing them games by his fielding problems. If they want him to play a new position then play him at 1st and get him away from those walls in left field. Buchholz is having enough problems by his own self to be down 2 runs before he even starts and also losing one of his best offensive threats and having him replaced with a no hit wonder besides. I am done commenting on the Red Sox until management makes some hard decisions to get this team going and I mean correct some of their off season screw ups. They have had enough time now to evaluate and now is the time for action.
Never liked Bucky, who is now 1-4 and over 6 in the ERA department. Gotta be a lot of head scratching going on.
Oh, my favorite...RISP...ONE FOR TWELVE. Don't look up the box score...you won't be happy.
New manager time ??? Better be makin' some moves soon, or you can forget about this season...

if John Farrell is the architect behind the starting rotation, by all means he should be gone. But Cherington designed the staff.
I would imagine that if the Sox continue their dominance of the cellar and box office receipts continue to slide, the bottom line will be affected. We know that will concern ownership, so they will need to make some moves to fix things (fire people, make trades, sell team?)
What a joke. Suckholz washed up, Masterson not what he used to be, Porcello decent, Miley and Kelly pretty much giving what they're capable of and the bullpen pretty much average and it is all the fault of Juan Nieves. Tom Seaver, Sandy Koufax, and Mariano Rivera could take the job on as a group and they're not going to lower those pitchers' ERA to something below 4.00
It seemed like Curt Schilling was auditioning for the pitching coach job during the Sunday night game vs. the Yankees by going on and on about how the whole Sox pitching staff had good stuff but no execution. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up hiring him to replace Nieves. If Schilling can get out of his contract with ESPN that is.
Let us not forget that it was Cherington who put this "staff" together. Now that Nieves is gone, I wouldn't mind seeing Schilling in the position...Pedro wouldn't be a bad choice.
I think I saw a stat this AM on ESPN that the Sox were 2/26 in the RISP department. Looks like both sides of the fence are in serious need of something.

that was Tuesday's news. He got optioned back to Pawtucket today (to bring up relievers)

It's all about the money but I agree with you!
Hate those days off from baseball. Back to action today with those dreaded Yankees.
I would throw the ball back onto the field myself.
I don't think so.
Let them buy it back if they want it.

He has only been catching for a very short period of time though so we will see how that works out.
He is a switch hitter who hits better from the left side but is a natural right hander.
Now we need to bring up a couple of pitchers and Castillo as soon as he is available to play again.
Victorino is not the answer and neither is Miley.
Arod gets 6 million for hitting it so he should be willing to give the guy that got it something besides a signed ball or bat.
He paid more that that for all his drugs to get himself to that plateau for sure.
The power is in these kids, they are hungry and very capable.!
<< <i>Tell me Sweihart doesn't look good! In 3 plate appearances he has had a hit , a walk, and scored a run from fist after a Mookie Betts single.

We need Pitchers like them
Red Sox continue to drop like a rock. No hitting in the clutch and the pitching is abysmal.
It is time for them to cut some deadwood and bring up a couple of more rookie pitchers to go along with him.
Eat some contracts if they have to but make some more moves now instead of later when it is too late.

Napoli not hitting at all is a BIG problem, all you can do is keep throwing him out there until he does.
Nava is not hitting, why is he in the lineup.
Craig hit a home run and has not played since, not that he is going to hit any more.
Betts is not hitting to speak of and probably wont for a while.
Bogaerts still is not hitting and who knows if he will.
Ramirez looks like a deer in the headlights in left field and does not hit like a clean up hitter.
Pitching needs fresh blood like Johnson and Rodrigues.
Napoli, Victorino and Nava need to move on , they are easily replaced.
You cant remove the long term contracts but you can work around them if you get rid of the short term ones and give a few rookies a chance.
Let the rookies that are not doing it right now go down to the minors and work out their problems.
Baseball is big business now and hungry rookies sometimes can provide the spark that the Sox do not have right now.
What do they have to lose right now because what they are doing now sure is not working.
I do understan what you are saying but doing nothing is not the answer for sure.
BTW, how is Mr Magic man doing tonight???
Yankees sweep.
